You 've had two doses in your lifetime so should not need anymore. Bring proof signed by your GP office. Or if you have one of those immunization booklets, I think that is also accepted because they come from a doctor office?? I'm not Britisher so I really don't know what those little books are, but I've heard people mention them.

Ah that's great thanks! I have my medical records and my vaccination records ready so I have double proof! I wasn't sure if the MMR was something that had a 10 year limit or something like that but sounds like I'm covered then!

Thanks so much!

Here's the MMR fact sheet. No mention of needing boosters . http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-mmr.pdf

I recall reading another thing by the Center for Disease Control saying the first dose is effective for 90% of the population and the second dose is given (in the US) just in case you happen to fall in the 10% that is not totally immune with one dose. I know Knightsbridge tells people with only one dose, they need another (unless 4 weeks interval has not passed since dose 1).

The Tdap is a 10 year thing mainly for the tetanus to be updated. I had a serious cut recently and they gave me a Td (tetanus/diptheria) shot since I hadn't had one in decades.

My appointment was at 9am. I got there at 8am and it was closed so i sat on a bench and read the Metro until 8:55 when i went in and filled out the forms etc. I was out by 9:45. I never did see the vaccination nurse and was not asked if i had had chicken pox before. They just marked it VH (Varicella history) without truly knowing! I gave them the up to date vaccination print out from the doctors and the paper book that i had from when i was a child. That only recorded the vaccines i had up to about age 10 though so i did need the print out too. But they accepted both.

It took 30 minutes to an hour (did the trip 6 times on 3 occasions) from St Pancras or Victoria to Bond Street on the tube. So as long as you factor in that time to get back to your train/bus station or wherever, you should get there in time. The only time it took an hour was when we had to collapse a stroller and carry a toddler up and down the stairs. Absolute nightmare! It was a lot quicker and easier by myself. Your timings sounds right. Even have time for dinner too with all being well!

Apologies if this is covered in another thread (or elsewhere on the internetz), but what exactly is checked for at the medical? Do they just want to make sure you aren't bringing in serious infectious diseases? And aren't psychotic and deranged? :)

They just check to ensure you have had/are caught up with all the immunisations the US requires. I'm not sure what they do if you have communicable diseases/viruses; we are fortunate not to be in that position. They do draw a vile of blood, so they are obviously looking for inconsistencies. They check your genitals- to confirm you are the gender you state? They do a chest X-ray to see if you have tuberculosis. They do ask questions about psychiatric history, but again, not sure what happens if there is a history. Just a basic all around health check really.

That's fine. Hubby is asthmatic so he kinda wondered what they were looking for. Otherwise, he's healthy as a horse. Just needs to get up to date on his vaccines. :)
