Hello everyone. It's me...again. I've called and booked my medical appointment this morning in London. Since we have to travel from Scotland, I'm trying to make sure we give ourselves enough time to arrive & depart.

1) those of you that have had your medical at London, did they accept you at your scheduled time?

2) how long did the appointment take?

Ours is at 3:30, and they close at 5, so I suspect the appt would be completed by then? Was hoping to catch a train at 6:19 at Kings Cross. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey,

I'm looking into booking my medical too. I'll also be getting the train down from Scotland. I'm a little nervous about booking it right now with all the snow incase my train gets cancelled! Do you have your interview date yet? I'm waiting in the queue for mine but thought I might as well get the medical out of the way.

Good luck!

That's actually a scary thought about the snow! Surprisingly, I had not thought of that. I guess just fingers crossed its not an issue!

You actually cannot have your interview until they receive the results from your medical, just FYI.

We will be sending in the DS230 part 1 & DS2001 in this week & will await our interview date once they have the details of our medical.

Aw I'm sure you will be fine, I think the weather is to calm down later in the week. Yeah I know I can't go to my interview until I have my medical but I was waiting on the NVC to schedule a date, I got my case complete last week so I was hoping for an interview in Feb but that might be wishful thinking and it could be March instead. I'll just go ahead and call the medical centre.

I hope your journey is moving quickly for you.

There is a pinned thread in the UK FORUM where people give details of ther medical exams. Some mention the time it took. The thread is quite old, so jump in where 2012 dates are.

And a little confusion between you two...

Georgia is DCF and must have the medical before London will assign an interview date.

Lou29 filed in the US. NVC will give her an interview date without having the medical exam first. She needs to get it before her interview, but can wait until she knows when that interview will be.

Hi Georgia!

I am in Belfast and was worried that I would not make it on time, as it was my first time in London so I wasn't sure how to go around. I got a flight that left at 07.45 am the same day of the Medical (Medical was booked for 1:30). Surprisingly from take the underground train to the Bond Street Station (which is very close walk) it just toke about 45min to 1 hour. So as you can see we got there wayyy to early. I end up going there and asked if they could fit me in a earlier time and they got me in 15min before the scheduled appointment. It lasted about 1 hour in total (medical and wait to pay for everything).

  5. Hib
  6. Meningococcal (MCV/MPSV)
  7. Rotavirus

Tdap- must be within the last 10 years. If you have record of pertussis (the "p") then Td will be accepted as the booster within the last 10 years. They also accept other combinations DTP, DT, DtaP. Capital letters mean stronger doses of the components. Lower case is weaker for adults.

MMR is 2 doses at least four weeks apart. If your only MMR was less than four weeks before your medical exam, then you get a waiver of dose 2 for "insufficient time interval".

Varicella- Knightsbridge takes your word if you tell them you had chickenpox. Since it is not normally given in the UK, you can get a waiver for "not routinely available" for a spouse visa (not true for K1).

Influenza requirements changed November 2010 to everyone over 6 months. It is a seasonal requirement Oct 1-Mar 31. If your GP doesn't want to give you the flu jab because you aren't elderly, try Boots, Tesco, etc and take the proof they give you to the medical exam.

As always, thanks for the helpful information.

In reviewing my hubby's records, I see that he'll need a tetanus & diphtheria booster. Easy enough, but looking at his records, it appears that 2 rounds of MMR were given on the same day. Is this normal, or could it be an issue with the way it was recorded?

Two MMRs wouldn't be given the same day. Did they get the date wrong? Or did they also mark mumps, measles, or rubella separately to show those were covered by the MMR combo jab? I'm thinking one date counts for one dose, but not looking at it, so don't really know.

Thanks for replying, Nick, perhaps I'll just have hubby clarify when he's at the GP

I'm a little confused about the MMR. I had it in 1994 and then again in 2007. Will I need to get it again at my medical next week? And if so, what do you mean by '2 rounds' not being done on the same day? Will I get delayed?

Thanks!

You 've had two doses in your lifetime so should not need anymore. Bring proof signed by your GP office. Or if you have one of those immunization booklets, I think that is also accepted because they come from a doctor office?? I'm not Britisher so I really don't know what those little books are, but I've heard people mention them.
