Hey everyone, we finally got our interview letter and its going to be about two weeks from now. I am just starting this thread to ask what we should expect at the interview, like what kind of questions will be asked. Also after the interview is done what is the next process, do we get the green card afterwards or is there another step and also how long of a wait is it to get the green card in the mail usually?

Someone had told me in a different thread that I should ask the people during the interview to give us a 10 year green card not the temporary 2 year one since we've been married for two years now. I am not sure if that's true or if it can be done or not, and if it can, how?

Sorry if they are dumb questions.

Thanks in advance.

After the interview is done, should you be approved, then you will receive an email and/or letter by mail with your approval notice. After which you should receive your green card, I think they usually say within 30 days but it usually comes before that. The temporary 2 year one which I believe you are referring to is the I-551 STAMP, which you can ask them to stamp in your passport or your I-94 if you are approved. I believe they're valid for 1-2 years & are the equivalent of the actual green card. People usually request them if they have not yet received their EAD or AP & want to work or travel. But I'm not sure if this delays the process of the " Plastic " card. Hope information was sufficient, Best of luck

As far as i know after the interview, providing that you're approved, they'll tell you that "yes" you are approved or they'll say they have to confirm a few things and you'll hear from them within 24 hrs and in most cases it gets approved within the hour. Now if you're married for more than 2 yrs they should automatically approve you for a 10 yr green card, but if they don't i wouldn't question it. just take what they give you and just remove the conditions in 21 mths (which is a much less stressful process). You not only receive the stamp in your passport, you also received a permanent resident card (green card) but with only 2 yrs validity then when the time comes you'll remove the "conditions" .

Thanks everyone. I noticed that in the interview letter it asks to bring a few things with us to the interview. One of the listed items to bring is an affidavit of support i-864 for each sponsor, but I know that when we submitted the application in the first place we did provide the i864 for me and my co sponsor, so do I have to provide it again at the interview? The same question goes for the i-693 for medical examination, again I did submit that with the i-485 in the beginning.

Also, the notice asks for supporting evidence of relationship, we had a child on February 1st, 2012, would that be enough as evidence or would I need to provide photos of us together also? I will be bringing a tax return that I filed last year with my name and hers on it.

Thanks!

Thanks!

- it is written "unless already submitted" on the letter.

- you need more evidences, such as a document showing that you have a joint bank account, joint car insurance, joint bills... You need to prove that you both are living together. Having recent pictures is also good. It's all written in the letter, so follow their instructions, have all the documents ready. Better be too much prepared than not enough.

You will be there to present and support your case, so work on gathering all the needed documents as explained in the letter.
