should i have been given my i94 with a cr1 visa?

I mentioned in another thread that i had trouble putting in for my road driving test because they asked me for my i94 which i was never given. It seems from the response that i should not have my I94 but i wanted to check. I had my I551(the actual vissa) but have not got a green card yet and they did give me a learners permit so i wonder if the woman i spok to just made a mistake in not allwoing me to take my test.

So i was just making a general topic here in the hospes of getting a reply.

Show them your Green Card, you should have one by now since you came here on a CR-1 visa. I don't believe CR-1 visas get a I-94 card since you are considered to be a permanent resident upon entry into the country. When did you enter the country, have you received your green card yet?

LPRs do not do I-94, and an LPR is what you became the moment you were admitted. The endorsement written on your visa by the CBP officer is evidence of that.

You were admitted as a greencard holder that is what the I-551 stamp is (a temp greencard) so no you do not need a I-94..

The person at the DMV has made a mistake.... go back and explain your I-551 is a greencard and allows you to remain and work in the USA...

Here is the link to the Geogia rules. My husband came on a CR 1 and in Alabama you must take the written test and then the road test. Before he could do anything he needed his greencard, his birth certificate, his social security card, and his passport. Good luck.

Thanks everybody. I was satrting to think i had just been unlucky to come across somebody who didn`t know what they were talking about. I even told her that the stamp in my passport was my actual visa.

I got my learners permit o.k. and hopefully the driving test will be smooth sailing. Thanks again everybody. I don`t have a green card yet though. I have been here 3 months. Do i get a greencard after i change my status on my visa as it is based on my marriage being less than 2 years?

I got my permanent resident within 4 weeks of entry under CR-1 visa

I noticed also that some people are confused if they are presented with endorsed CR-1 visa instead of actual permanent resident card (personal experience at license branch & SS office).

What is the date on the last Welcome letter you got? Did they all come in a rush together?

You are way overdue and probably need to follow up. I don't think you'll get any joy out of calling the 1-800 number, but it's a free start anyway.

You need to make sure the card wasn't refused delivery and returned to the Service Center "PONDS" Unit (you can google the newsgroups for more on that) and that they have your correct mailing address.

Your other question.. you'll need to file I-751 just before your 2 year anniversary of ENTERING the US--you most definitely should have a green card before then.

Time for a phone call, and maybe an Infopass appointment. You can always continue to get stamps in your passport (and you should) if you dont' have a card--that is your only proof of status.

It took almost 2 months for my GC and SSN to arrive. The GC did however arrive around the same time as I received 2 Welcome to America's.

I am on the phone to the USCIS now. There is a 10 to 15 minute wait apparently.

O.K. it must happen a lot as the automated number has the option for received letter but not card. I got through to an operator eventually who told me that it was returned ot the post office undelivered in September. They are redelivering it. I swear the mail system in these apartments sucks. I just have to hope it arrives before we move at the start of December. She did say 30 days maximum so hopefully it comes soon.

Is your name in the mailbox - i.e. does the post office know you live there? If not they may not deliver it for that reason.
