Well I Found you can't order tickets thru aeroflot.ru that r around christmas. It just won't charge CC. So I had to do prepaid tickets thru new york office. For 50 bucks they got the tickets prepaid. So much simpler. They didn't even ask for her passport number, expiration, just her name and my name. They charged my CC and I will verify all this prob fri/monday. Basically all she has to do is pick them up. That part I will verify too..this is russia we are talking about.

Also whats good about these special holiday tickets, other than that are 400$ more expensive than regular, they r fully refundable and you can change the flight +/- few days from original.

Your post caught my eye. I have been watching flight costs from Ekaterinburg to Mnpls-USA and still the cheapest is Aeroflot at $777.00 This is trips in two days as well as two months! at EXPEDIA.COM they allow the USC to buy the ticket with a credit card and charge $36.95 to send the paper ticket to her. Aeroflot is still cheap and the main reason why is that many Russians don't trust the airline. Even thought the international trip is using Boeing planes, they don't trust the maintenance in Russia.

I have been looking at British Airlines to London- Chicago for POE. $200.00 more but my girl feels comfortable.

Maybe Aeroflot International flights using Boeing jets is not substantiated as a risk as I have never heard of an Aoreflot Boeing going down.

Well. what ever she wants to fly on is OK with me as long as it's not Concorde. Oh! there gone! Thank God the $10,000.00 trip accross the pond is gone.

Aeroflot has not had a crash (with fatalities) in over 12 years...

and none involving a Boeing aircraft.

For the non-stop flights both Aeroflot (JFK > SVO, LAX > SVO) & Delta (JFK > SVO) use the Boeing 767. The last Boeing 767 that went down was an 'Air China' in South Korea about 4 years ago ...

Aeroflot gets a bad rap when in reality they are doing pretty well these days. The ones you have to watch are the smaller domestic Russian carriers! :o

Cheers!

But you know, whether Aeroflot or Delta, I still love it when the Russian passengers ~applaud~ the pilot upon making a successful landing... ;)

I thought the plane that crashed in Ukraine in August was an Aeroflot jet. Does anyone remember that, is was this summer? I actually prefer KLM for my international flights since they really seem to take care of their customers. I've never flown Aeroflot but I know they are usually the cheapest. Do you ever wonder why?

My consideration when my fiancee was coming to America, was her safety first, arrive in my state as her point of entry and cost last. When you consider the precious cargo we are sending why worry about cost. Another consideration is the overall flying experience. In my opinion, the less plane changes the better. Of course, many of us do not live close to an international airport so POE is not always an option. One of my friends from Missouri flew to New York when his fiancee arrived and they spent a few days taking a bite out of the big apple.

By the way, that plane crash this summer was from extremely bad weather. Real sad too with so many children returning home from vacation.

Investigators combed though wreckage in a Ukrainian field on Wednesday, a day after a crash that killed all 170 people on a Russian passenger plane during a severe thunderstorm.

The flight recorders of the Pulkovo Airlines' Tu-154 have been found and may help explain the cause of the third fatal crash this year of a Russian airliner.

I will agree with you about the food. The only problem is trying to fit the food tray in between your stomach and the seat 2" in front of you. After cramming myself in that tiny space I about need a wheel chair when I get off the flight.

I have seen some transatlanic flights that had lousy movies but my aeroflot flight had no movie. That too is a first.

Of course it is a lot better then when I flew with them in 1996. The state department had a travel advisory not to fly with them. Domestically it was not uncommon to have pigs or dogs running up the aisles. I was in the exit row and they had about 10 suitcases piled up blocking the exit. Those were the days you had to use the special Intourist office to fly out of because they didn't want you mixing with the natives.

To me, Delta and KLM are my choices and Aeroflot is at the bottom of the list with Air France above it. I may pay a little extra but it is the best money I could spend.

I'm with you on that one Dan (The Clapping). It totally makes me laugh when they do that. I clap with them but it's funny and totally cool. My fiancee told me that Russia has the best pilots after I told her that they dont de-ice the planes. I almost s h i t my pants when they didn't de-ice the plane in March and in SIBERIA for that matter !!!! If I were to choose I between S7 or Aeroflot. I would go with Aeroflot. There are less flies on the Aeroflot planes. I couldn't believe I had to swat flies on the plane. Now I wonder if the flies realize that they were at one time in Germany and now they ended up in Siberia. Interesting question.

16/10/2006- Interview date- I'm nervous and my fiance is cool calm and collective. And she's the one that has to do the interview.

I've flown Aeroflot, Delta, FinnAir, BA, and SwissAir to and from Russia. SwissAir was best -- but they're out of business.

BA was nice but you have to connect through Heathrow which has to be one of the worst airports in the world. Last time I was scheduled to go, the UK had their latest terrorism scare and I had to re-route. (BA would require that I check my laptop but company security explicitly forbids checking laptop computers and it turned into a full-blown cluster...k)

I find food on Aeroflot is better than Delta. Aeroflot international equipment is as good or better than Delta, FinnAir, or BA. Aeroflot flight attendants do not show evidence of being required to go to surly/hostile school -- unlike Delta. The FinnAir connection in Helsinki is too tight and they've stopped accommodating passengers who get caught by their tight-but-legal connection.

I'll go Aeroflot, enjoy the service, and save some cash.

It is the domestic Russian carriers you have to worry about -- and stay away from those TU-134's!

No matter who you fly with, a 10 hour flight is better than a 10 day train ride!

(That is, unless your little sweety is with you in the first class cabin.)

I've flown mostly Lufthansa/Austrian/LOT and both Lufthansa and Austrian were great, but usually a little more expensive than Delta or Aeroflot. LOT was so-so, on one flight my meal was two slices of bread covered in mayo and a single leaf of lettuce in between. I ragged on my Polish friends here in the US for months after that one. And German people also cheer when they land, but I think it's because most of them drink during the flight :)

One funny thing I've noticed about Russian flyers is that the moment the wheels touch down there's a mad scramble to get their stuff out of the overhead bins and a rush for the doors before the plane has even stopped.
