All,

My wife landed on Dec 20th but we are still waiting for the physical green card.

What is the average time to get the physical green card in the mail from the day of landing?

Also, can you travel out of the country without the physical greencard?

Thanks..

Mine took four weeks. The I-551 stamp put in her passport at POE acts as a temporary green card for up to a year so she can travel with that.

I'm not sure how long it takes to get the physical green card, but the stamp you get in your passport at POE is supposed to act as a temporary greencard until you get the regular one, so with that you should be able to come and go whenever you want.

within 45 days, usually.

for now, call into USCIS,

inquire about greencard issuance and shipment,

ask about the USPS tracking number,

as greencards are sent out USPostal Service, first class mail with tracking.

Call each day till you know the tracking number,

then once you have it,

track it at www.usps.com

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

It's a combination of the visa itself endorsed with a standard entry stamp placed on the page next to the visa by a CBP Officer that acts as a temporary green card. CBP is no longer placing special stamps in passports of CR-1 and IR-1 visa holders.

Hi,

Mine took two weeks to arrive. You may travel with the immigrant visa that has the entry stamp, however some immigration officers are not aware of the importance of the stamp and you might be refused to leave the country you are visiting. Please wait for the physical green card.
