Just wanted to share a quick down low of my US (Tennessee specifically) Driving Test experience! I hope it comes in handy for anyone looking into taking it themselves, I know I was nervous and in the dark for the mot part!

Warmest wishes to all.

Good to hear it worked out well. My experience with the DMV has been dark humoured (yes I spelt it with a U, HA!) Almost failed the theory test on questions about obscure things that never occurred to me as being a law, hampered with the poor conversion from metres to feet. Almost failed the vision test because I said zed instead of zee (took a lot of fast talking!) and then had to spend half an hour explaining what my New Zealand drivers license's classes and restrictions were. Total time at DMV (on that occasion) = 4 hours...

Because of the difficulties in explaining different license classes from NZ, I opted to just receive the basic car license. Im still building up steam, perseverence and momentum to go back and ask for my motorcycle and truck licenses to be transferred..

I totally sympathize. I have just undergone the renewing of my US drivers license this week and that was a mini trial in and of itself. Turns out that only select DMV center's will process a permanent resident status license and that you can't expect to find accurate information online, or unbelievably, through a phone conversation with the center before going in person! Lesson's learnt that is for sure! ;)

Transferred? They transfer them? I haven't heard of that except for Canada. I HAVE heard of you needing to take the tests again.

Probably a bad choice of words on my behalf. They do reduce the requirements for getting a drivers license based on foreign licenses, for example I didn't have to do a practical driving test, only vision and theory.

It varies. Texas, strangely, has what they call "license reciprocity agreements" with Canada, France, South Korea and Germany.
