Yes, in a manner of speaking. They claim things that pique my interest and I then google the claims up to see if the claims are true.

Same here.

Like I was very suprised when Charlie Crist claimed that he was backed by a Democrat newspaper, so I came online to check.

Mind you, I was voting for him anyways

i thought FL had 2 good candidates this year, but Charlie ran some terrible ads ALL THE TIME. what a turn off. I mean, everyone knows him, knows his capabilities, his signs are EVERYWHERE... why the need to run ad after ad after ad about Jim Davis? Seriously it was disgusting.

Im not sad because Charlie is governor in the least, but i thought he would have more class than that.

Well, I'd pretty much decided who I was going to vote for, then I saw a negative ad by the opponent accusing the person I'd been going to vote for of holding a position I support and saying that she (the opponent) would never allow that to happen, and I felt so strongly about the position that I voted for the person I was going to vote for who was the target of the negative ad, and not for the opponent whose ad it was.

Normally, though, I consider them only in that way; I don't take the mud-slinging seriously (with really serious allegations, I do research them, but there's so rarely any substance to them), but if I hear something in an ad that suggests that one person holds a position I support, I pay attention to that.

That said, the point of negative ads is to get people not to vote. The idea is to stop people from voting for your opponent, not to get them to vote for you instead.

I would never base my voting on political ads.

Tammy Duckworth who was running for the U.S. house from Illinois, had both legs blown off in Iraq. She lost though because she would not run negative ads against her opponent.
