ok here I go with this long drawn out question..... I was married here in the states, divorced, but i never went back to my maiden name. i got married to december 1st to my ghanian love on the marriage certificate it has (names and surnames) underneath it it has my husbands name first and under his name it has my name but it has the name that i was then carrying which is my old married name. i hope this makes since. the question is....... is that incorrect, was they supposed to use my maiden name. I use my ex husbands last name from the time we got married up until today i went to social security office and changed it so i want have no future issues trying to get my hubby home. this is frustrating and i just begun!!!!!! answers please:(( especially from ones that has been married and divorced previously and kept the ex hubbys name until married again

OK, but what is the question please?

The question was asked.

The answer, is that if that's the name you were going by at the time, then that's correct.

My mother has her maiden name on her cert with my dad.

Then she has my dad's name on her cert with my step dad.

Most people don't go back to their maiden name if they've been married for a significant enough amount of time.

IE, they didn't marry someone and get divorced quickly and get so mad at their husband that they wanted nothing to do with them and changed their name back... like my sister =]

Also, when you fill out the I-130, you list all previous names, so they will see the chain of change.

No issues, no confusion.

Whatever name you were using legally at the time of your new marriage is the name that should be on your paperwork. That is fine. Lots of women continue to use their first married name. You aren't obligated to go back to your maiden name. I did, but that was just for personal choice because I did not want to be tied to my ex-husband's name. You should be fine with what you have.
