What do you do for kareoke in the US?

My wife wants to put a kareoke/videoke room downstairs. I would like to surprise her with something. I have no idea where to start. I looked at some Magic Mike packages online and they were $500 - 1000. I am not excited about that. Anybody have any reasonable suggestions? Thanks, Robert

I bought two magic sings that plug into a TV (or surround sound) plus a couple Tagalog chips for like $190 each... dang if I remember where I bought them online.

Search for the magic sing on ebay, there are quite a few dealers selling the English tagalog single microphone version for about $140. You can get more chips to increase the song count, but the English Tagalog one comes with a little over 2000 songs programmed into them. I just ordered one for my wife and plan to get the Tagalog 3 chip which adds another 900 songs.

Here is a link to the same Magic Sing I bought. I have friends who've seen mine and purchased an older version to save money, only to later buy this one. It costs a little more (around $350) but everyone I know who've seen mine has wanted the same one. I guess I got lucky I bought this one, but I'd absolutely, 2 thumbs up, 5 star recommend this one.

I do have friends who have older versions, that they bought in the $150 range and they use them. You don't have to spend more. But even they ask me to bring mine over (they're very portable and simple to hook up) for parties.

Edit: This one comes with 900 Tagalog songs, 1600 English songs, so it's all ready to go and it has rooms for more chips which usually have about 100 more songs. I also put in a memory chip so while we're singing people see photos from previous parties, or my kids, or whatever I put on the chip. Nice added bonus there.

Magic Sing. It is something that they are familiar with and look on line. Got ours for about $200 a couple of years ago. A new chip each year until we had 4 chips in it at over 3000 songs. Then added a wirelss mic last year. Trisha loves it, so does our soon to be 3 yr old son and all of her friends do to.

Love forever,

It would be nice if you can get the one in the Philippines with built in speakers and TV monitor lol. It's just a click of a button and you could choose as much song as you like hehehe... You could also rent it out... I had one of those and my fellow pinoy friends rent if for 500 pesos per day hehehe..

Kereoke is not part of our USA culture, and I don't know why it has not caught on. I thought it was rather stipud when I first saw my filipina niece singing to it in their home. Then I was with my filipino/filipina friends in the Philippines, and they are really into it, and I got into it with them, and it is a lot of fun. We were all taking our turns singing songs with that Kereoke/Videoke, and I really had a lot of fun doing that. I don't really have any advice about what you asked, but I thought I write here and say how much the people from the Philppines are into this, and it is a lot of fun! :)

Bite the bullet and buy a magic sing. That's what you'll end up with eventually anyway

Kereoke is not part of our USA culture, and I don't know why it has not caught on.

I think it is because in the west we don't enjoy listening to drunkards bellow like caribou that have been fatally mauled by a pack of wild dogs.

Actually I've found karaoke to be quite common here. It was more common on Texas than it is here in Iowa but that's probably because I'm in country Iowa. i hear about karaoke nights all the time on the radio.

It's also common in Australia. I've won a few competitions for money and drink cards (and kudos :P)
