Kano will pay handsomely

Tanga Kano Lang. There are those of us who know what were doing and pay less then the filipino!!

Always the best to walk upstairs to the arrival area and get a cab dropping off someone. Make sure you say meter and no excuses.. Their not expecting the fair and its a bonus..

The embassy is close but its the traffic(time of day) that will make a 10 minute drive into an hour. Also, Bayview Park hotel is across the street if he is playing stupid..

Anyone know average Taxi fare from the local Manila airport to the embassy area or Lotus Garden hotel?

Using Tiger Air as airline

Thanks

Give you some advise, taxi rates in manila are among some of the cheapest in the world, but you need to be careful what kind of taxi you jump into. Normal taxi rates the white no aircon taxis with marking is P30Php for the first 1KM then 2.50PHP every 300 meters. The aircon taxis white taxis are 40PHP for the first 1KM then 3.50Php every 300 meters. The Yellow taxis are 70PHP for the first 1KM then 400PHP every 300 meters. The embassy area is about 8 miles from the airport or 12.9KM. If you take a aircon taxi then it will be 40 peso + 11900 meters or 139PHP total about 180PHP "the best possible rate". This is if the taxi takes the shortest route, but depending on traffic this may not be the case, or if there is a lot of waiting time in traffic. So plan on paying from 250Php to 500PHP.

Good advise is to just prepay the taxi at the airport "taxi booth in front of terminal" and get a safe taxi, you will not get ripped off, don't need to argue with the driver getting them to turn on the meter, or getting took on a tour of manila to pad the price. The prepaid price is about 500PHP or about $12.50. If this is your first time to Manila, of if your arriving late at night. Any taxi you get into make sure the diver turns on the meter, if he will not then get out and get another taxi or your bill could be 1000PHP or more.

Seriously? #######? You could WALK to the airport from SM Bicutan! It's like 2k. Should have taken a jeep for p8. Or taxi for no more than p50. I hope 500 was a typo. Because that would totally be illegal.

Would not be over 100. Where do you people get taxi prices from? If the taxi is charging you these prices, his meter it rigged. It's illegal. Contact the tourist police immediately.

OMG

:dead:

Standard rate for a metered taxi is legally set at P40 at flag fall and P3.5 per 300m or 2mins. Even a short ride can run you over P300 if traffic is a pain which it often is in Ermita. From the Airport metered taxis are allowed to set their flag fall at P70 (first 500m included) and charge P4 per 300m or 2mins. This can add up quickly.

Add up quickly? Not really. Not in a small city like Metro Manila.

From NAIA to Ermita, you're looking at 3-4k. That's still less than p100.

Unless the prices have gone up in the past few months? I lived and worked in Manila for years.

How long have you guys lived there that got charges p500 for a short ride???

I have been living in Manila since December and this isn't my first time living here. The distance isn't much of the issue from the airport, it is the traffic, which is especially harsh this time of year. Any time the taxi is idle you are racking up charges. Most of the time I use a jeepney unless it is late, which makes traffic even worse as everyone is traveling home. The prices are well documented in this thread already. The moment you step into a legal metered taxi you incur a P40 fee, for every 300 meters the taxi moves you are charged an additional P3.5, and finally take all the time the taxi sits idle (lights, standstill traffic, pedestrians, etc) and you add another P3.5/2 minutes. For a taxi from the airport the rates are P70 and P4 instead of P40 and P3.5. A trip to Ermita (near Robinson's Mall) during morning or evening rush can take up to an hour (or more) for 12.5km trip. (Your distance from NAIA to Ermita is way off. Just from NAIA-3 to the US Embassy is 14km.)

If you consider Metro Manila a small city I have to really question your perspective. Metro Manila is the 10th largest city in the world. The US only has one city larger (and that is only by population, New York City is smaller in area by 50%). Perhaps you meant Manila itself as being a small city and, yes, it is smaller, but then you have to remember that NAIA is in Pasay and Parañaque and not Manila proper.

In my experience, it was about 300 pesos from the embassy (hotel near there) to the airport. That's a metered taxi. Got out of a few taxis in Manila while I was there for refusing to turn the meter on.

It was about 30-40 drive with traffic....not a bad price. In NYC you'd probably pay $50 for a taxi ride that far/long.

Thanks for so many responses

I'm gonna count on about $6-$12

Depending on traffic

Sounds good, i really drill the guys, respectfully of course to get a fair rate. But when you live there that adds up when you're using taxi's all of the time. But I know my way around and I know enough Tagalog to let them know i'm not taking any ######..

On vacation whats an extra buck or two?? Nothing to get in an argument over..

In NYC, it's an hour or two's work. Here, 300 pesos is near a day's salary for a professional. If an officer worker makes 450 pesos a day, how would he afford a 600 peso a day round trip?

Where did Kevo say anything about office workers in the Philippines?

Maybe they moved Ermita, but when I live there it was 11km from NAIA. :P

Have your date hire a car and meet at the airport. The money she will save you in those first few hours with more than pay for the cost of the driver. Like has been said, many of the hotels have pick-up service, when the driver hasn't been hired out for a day trip to Tagaytay.
