I'm going to enter the US on my K1 soon. My husband-to-be is going to add me to his health insurance soon after we're married (we are assuming he can't before that). However, before that happens, I would still like to be covered in the unlikely case of emergencies/serious conditions (accidents, broken limbs, etc).

I've been looking into short term insurances online and only got a headache in return. I wonder if someone on here knows of resources that can guide me in the choice, or would like to share their experiences.

You can added to his insurance immediately upon marriage. Since you need to do this in 90 days or less, finding and paying for short term insurance may not be the best option ( expensive and a hassle)and the chance of risk is small.Or just get married right away !!

I signed my then-fiancé up for the Inbound Immigrant insurance to cover his time between POE and officially being on my insurance plan. It can take about 30 days for you to formally be covered by your soon-to-be husband's plan, so go for at least 45-60 days, if you can. I submitted the insurance paperwork to add my husband to my insurance plan right after we were married and he just received his insurance card last week.

Part One: The K-1 Visa Journey:

USCIS Receipt of I-129F: January 24, 2012 | Petition Approval: June 15, 2012 (No RFEs)
Interview: October 24, 2012 - Review | Visa Delivered: October 31, 2012



Part Two: Entry and Adjusting Status:

POE: November 18, 2012 (at SFO) - Review
Wedding: December 1, 2012 | Social Security: New cards received on December 7, 2012.
AOS Package (I-485/I-765/I-131) NOA1: February 19, 2013 | Biometrics Appt.: March 18, 2013
AP/EAD Approved: April 29, 2013 | Card Received: May 6, 2013 | AOS Interview Appt.: May 16, 2013 - Approved Review Card Received: May 24, 2013

Can you purchase "travel" insurance? Can it be considered a "trip" at this point? For example I purchase travel insurance for myself and my kids to cover us while we're in the U.S. as visitors. Even though we have full coverage at home, if anything were to happen while we are away we are screwed for the most part. It is very inexpensive for us. Perhaps look into something like that.

Have your fiancé check with his insurance provider.... I know of a few companies that will allow you to add a fiancée or fiancé to your health insurance... Mine will not, but there are a few that will.
