like it or not, there is an extreme segment of the liberal left that would like to see the US fail in Iraq...and they will do everything they can to ensure that will happen.

Perhaps, but the difference is they're not in power, and they likely never will be.

Like it or not, there is an extreme segment of the conservative right that would be willing to lie, cheat, and steal to win elections and wage war... and they're currently in power.

whether he's american or not matters like a fart in a tornado to me. he's writing a slanted piece in a foreign newspaper that further distorts the view of the usa. suck on that.

Well.... he made some pretty serious allegations of electoral fraud and we shouldn't

dismiss the possibility that they might be true out of hand, regardless of his nationality.

A lot of things that are true make the USA look bad. Things like Abu Ghraib.

Does it mean they should not be published?

How would you define slanted writing? His work is full of scholarship, reseearched, and well respected in the academic & journalistic world. Agree or disagree with him but do not dismiss simply because he offers a different interpretation of the world of American politics

he's dismissed as he's writing fiction before the election.

Valid point... its an 'editorial'. After "The Guardian" did anyone read the word "Comment", which immediately follows it?

BTW - has anyone here actually worked as a journalist?

HOW THEY STOLE THE MID-TERM ELECTION

by Greg Palast

for The Guardian (UK), Comment

Monday November 6, 2006

Here's how the 2006 mid-term election was stolen.

another nutjob brit telling us how to do things, like we don't have enough of those around here

Better find a different argument there, Charles. A lot of your own countrymen feel the same way.

I LOVE IT!!!!

No, but obviously you love the use of the Exclamation Point!!!! Endlessly!!! Without respite!!!!

HOW THEY STOLE THE MID-TERM ELECTION

<snippage>

Sounds benign, but it's not. The federal HAVA law and complex new ID

requirements in states like New Mexico will easily allow the GOP

squads to triple the number of voters turned away. Rather than deny

using these voter suppression tactics, Republican spokesmen are

claiming they are "protecting the integrity of the vote."

Uhhhhhhhhhhh... no, here in New Mexico the Secretary of State sent out new Voter ID cards to all registered voters a long time before the election and then they ran campaigns and ads, telling people that the new ID's were NOT even needed to enable you to vote, just a driver's license or some form of ID... and then they ran public service ads by the Secretary of State telling you that NO ONE can deny you the right to vote, even with NO id, that you could ask for a PROVISIONAL BALLOT that could be verified against your identity later...

soooooooooooooo... there were no complex new ID requirements in this state.... none whatsoever...

So I have to reject the rest of the article since obviously he hasn't a clue what's going on here in New Mexico...

-- Dan (yeah, in New Mexico...)
