Hey all, been reading the guides and I think I'm missing a couple pieces of information:

1) Which is better? W2's or tax returns?

2) How many?

3) And do they want originals? Or photocopies?

I found all the info on bank statements, employer statements... I'm assuming these are all originals too?

Will I get these back after the interview to give back to him/his parents?

1) They want Tax returns. You can go to IRS.GOV and order a FREE Tax transcript.

2) They want 1 tax return

3) Send the Tax Transcript from answer #1. You sent the original when you filed your taxes.

Ecalos, I forgot to add.......

The letter from the Employer needs to be an original I'd think. That's what I'm giving to Fernanda. It should state your position, salary, full or part time.

You can get your bank to type a letter on Bank Letterhead stating when you opened the account, current balance and how much was deposited in total on the past 12 months. If you cannot get them to type a letter for you, bank stmts will work. Have your Fiancee tell the Consular Officer that he can't keep them. So you need to make copies first!

You can email the Consulate and ask what info they want. Include your salary as this determines how much additional proof you need to submit. The Consulate in Rio de Janeiro gave me my info. If you are self-employed, you may need 3 years of taxes. I'm giving Fernanda 3 mos of pay stubs, just in case! She'll be prepared!

Brasil's consulate usually asks for both the tax return and the W2 attached to the front. Dunno about other consulates.

1) A tax return is not complete without a W-2 when there is income from employment other than self-employment. It is not an 'either-or' issue.

2) Ask the consulate - some ask for 1 year, others ask for 3 years.

3) Originals are with the IRS, your options are a photocopy or an IRS-provided tax transcript.

Even though we're still only on the NVC stage, I'll email Vancouver and ask them what they would like us to have when the time comes.

It's funny... seemed like AGES for the 129F, and now I'm scrambling to get everything done

Can anyone help me understand what the Tax transcripts are?

My fiance tells me he has the Tax Returns and the W2's, but he doesn't know what the tax transcripts are either, is this something you get when you are self-employed?
