Hi everybody,

My husband is the US Citizen and I am a Non Resident Alien.

We were planning on flying taxes jointly for 2012 and applying for my INIT by sending the W-7 form to declare me a resident for tax purposes.

I am flying to the US next month and I was wondering if I could apply for a Social Security Number before having a Green Card?

I do not meet the requirements listed here, but I was wondering if anyone knows a way/loophole to jump through? I would like to build my credit score if possible even before I get there.

I tried to research a bit both here on the forums and Google but I did not find anything.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Ivy

*** Moving from CR-1 to SSN forum ***

No, you cannot apply for an SSN just as a visitor, you would need a visa which allows you to get a SSN, such as a work visa or your spousal visa.
