Ok, I called NV today to check the status. They have received my file but nothing was entered into the computer so I don't have a case number yet. I have a few questions:

1) how long does this process usually take?

2) will the case number etc be available online so I can complete everything and send it from the US? Or will it be sent to me in Canada?

3) would it be safe for me to visit my husband in the US while I'm waiting?

Thanks again everyone for all your help and support.

Thanks again everyone for all your help and support.

1) It usually takes around two weeks, but in some cases can take up to a month. I'd start calling daily starting on Monday.

2) Although you can technically check your case status online, that site is very rarely updating and vague, so even if you do check it, it will only say "processing at NVC", and give no details. You'll have to call to get specifics.

3) You can surely try to go visit him, but prepared to be denied entry at the border. You'll need to take enough documents to persuade the POE officer that you 100% plan on returning to Canada.

Also, when you receive your case numbers, make sure you give the NVC rep both your and your husband's email address, so the rest of your correspondence with NVC can be through email and not snail mail. good.gif

I sent one this morning. I've gotten tired of calling them and getting vague answers...even after talking to a Tier 2 rep. It seems the responses people get via email from USCIS give more detail. I would think if my case was transferred to a field office it would have happened by now, so I'm trying to find that out.

Thank you so much!

I'm prepared for the border crossing and I never had a problem in the past because they have record of me having ties in the states and crossing many times. And I was just informed that as long as I have all my records that I am doing things legally I should be good!

I will call NVC every week.

I just got another email from the USCIS now saying that my I-129f was just approved as well! I have heard so many people on here say that they are not approving them any more, well they are! And I hope that this means that I can go back home to Florida with my Husband sooner then expected! Keep the hope alive everyone, your time is coming!

It's not that they don't approve them, it's that they don't make it past NVC. Once your I-130 gets approved, the I-129f gets closed at NVC. They never ship it to the embassy for an interview date.

Ok thanks! I'm on another conversation on here that someone else from Canada has had their I-29 make it thought the NVC along with their I-130.....apparently that's really rare. We will see what happens with my case. I don't care how I get back to the States, just as long as I get there as fast as possible!!

Thanks for the input! It's strange how this whole journey goes eh?

Hello everyone,

Ok, I called NVC and they filed my case # on Friday and I'm just finding out today!!! So they told me they are getting the package to be sent out today. I am super excited!!!!

Be proactive with NVC to speed up the things, rather than reactive!

1) After receiving the case from the USCIS, NVC assigns a case# (NVC Case#)

2) Call NVC at 603-334-0700 to get NVC Case#, to provide both the petitioner and beneficiary email ids and to get IIN (Invoice Identification Number)

3) Email DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) by the beneficiary to NVCINQUIRY@state.gov making the U.S petitioner as the agent (Email format: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Email_DS-3032_form) ---- IS THIS STEP NECESSARY IF I ALREADY RECEIVED THE INFO BY PHONE? PLEASE ADVISE :)

The next step is making the payment? Yes?

Since you are Canadian, you don't follow the same steps as everyone else, and won't be sending a DS3032. These are your steps (I'm going to quote Saylin on this, since she's the local EP/online forms wiz):

Okay, for Canadians, NVC goes as follows:

1. Once the case number is assigned, on the SAME call, do the following: get the case number, get the IIN, get the BIN, give over both email addresses

2. Send the optin email (if you wish to do EP)

3. Try logging onto the payment portal, once you can, pay the AOS bill

3. Try logging onto the online forms portal, once you can, fill out the DS-261

4. Once the IV bill has been invoiced (based on acceptance of DS-261), pay the IV bill

5. Once AOS is showing as paid and optin email has been accepted, send the AOS package

6. Once IV is showing as paid and optin email has been accepted, send the IV package and fill out the DS-260 online

7. Respond to any checklists

Also, I suggest you go to this link and read up on the more specific instructions:

Lots of luck!

Great news! Just wondering, my 1-130 was approved on April 5th, when should I call the NVC? They say to wait 2 weeks before you call, is this true??

Thanks!

No, I'd start calling a week after. My case was received at NVC three business days after NOA2.
