Yay!!! Congratulations to the Hubby!! Will you be doing a same day passport? I was thinking of handing in my naturalization certificate with my passport application after the Oath ceremony but I'm not sure how long the processing time is.

We have an appointment at the Miami passport office Friday morning to get the same day passport. He has to fly to panama on Sunday for a job so he needs it!

Hi all,

I wanted to report that my husband passed his naturalization interview. His interview only took about 15 minutes, but he was a bit nervous about the questions. He studied the questions, but the IO seemed to elaborate or want more than just the short responses outlined in the book they give you. It threw him for a loop, so it took additional think time on his end to figure out what she was actually asking for.

Questions asked:

1. Where does the President live? (He was asked to read this question and then write the answer out as a complete answer)

2. Where is the Statue of Liberty (IO asked for elaboration after he answered New York)

3. What event to the equality of different races? (CRM)

4. What is the Constitution?

5. How does the Constitution work?

Also, we filed on the 3-year marriage condition. There was a question of how long you have been in the country for 5 years on the application. We had seen on here that people put a line through the 5 and put a 3 if they are filing under the marriage condition. The IO told him that you should NEVER edit an official government form and made him recalculate how long he had been in the US.

Hope this helps others who may be filing out applications or have interviews coming up.

Wow a few of the questions were so different from the ones in the book. I'm surprised they asked him to elaborate..weird! But now the hard part is done! Congratulations to your Hubby on passing his interview! good.gif

Hey drama queen,

Mine said the same thing yours said from mar 29th - apr 2nd

And then it changed to what I posted above on the evening of apr 2nd.

And my office is actually Brooklyn not nyc sorry for the confusion.

And I'm sure yours will be processed soon. :) hang in there.

I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

Thanks for clarifying this. I had no idea that there is actually a separate local office in Brooklyn. I thought that everybody from NYC has to go to the Manhattan office on Varick Street.

There is no USCIS office in Brooklyn. There are 3 that cover NYC and its suburbs. Manhattan, Queens and Long Island.

The one in Manhattan is the busiest. Even my application is stuck in the in line interview status.

Oh man! Now I feel even more nervous. That better not happen at the interview tomorrow. I thought they read from a pre-printed list of questions directly from the book. If they ask for elaboration, there is going to be a problem. We also crossed out the 5 years and put 3 on the application because otherwise there would have been the question of being outside of the US for too long to apply for continuous residency. Another thread I saw said that the IO got mad because they calculated based on 5 years rather than 3, so the number was wrong. I wish they would be consistent or at least have the option of marking 3 rather than 5. I am really getting anxious about tomorrow!

We thought the questions would be asked exactly as written as well. When Kyle was telling me about it, it sounded like the IO was reading a description (like the paragraphs under some of the questions in the booklet) and then waiting for a response similar to the tv show Jeopardy. He said most of the time he had to figure out which question she was really asking to answer it correctly. The two people who she interviewed before him did not pass. One couldn't understand her and speak English well enough, and the other didn't pass the Civics portion. She even told him, "I can only help but so much." She was behind on her interviews as we were called 45 minutes after his interview time. I'm thinking this is not the norm, but just make sure to listen, think about the question, and then respond.

As far as the 3/5 year thing, I think I based my decision of what to do off of forum posts that you were apart of because of what someone else said the IO said. Ah well. I just wanted to give people a head's up as to my husband's experience in case it came up again. It'd be nice if they clarified directions differently for 3 year people versus 5 year people.

I'm sure things will go fine for you guys, Menina!

Greetings,

Please update.

Interview passed - 4/4

Oath letter received - 4/4

Oath scheduled - 4/12

I passed the interview today and received the oath letter right after. Starting today, Greer office is handing out oath letter the same day as the interview.

I got there early around 8am. Interview was scheduled at 9am. I was called in at 9:30 am or so. It took less than 10 mins for the interview to be over. I was sworn in first. I was asked to sign on the front side of my pictures, along one of the sides. I was asked to read a question (What is the most populous state) and then write the answer (California is the most populous state). Followed by 6 civics question, IO read from a sheet of paper and wrote down my actual answers.

Voting rights amendment - must be usc and at least 18

President in charge of executive branch

VP serves as the president

Why pilgrims come to the US

Communism (cold war)

One of the rights in the first amendment.

Then IO went over every question in the application, then asked me to sign the application. He did not ask me to show any other document, besides Green card and passport.

He gave me a letter stating I passed the interview and recommended for approval. He then proceeded to tell me that starting today they are giving out oath letters after the application is verified again by one other person. After 10 mins or so, I received the oath letter. Scheduled for Apr 12th.

Congrats for the ones who completed the journey. Best of luck to the rest going through it.

Menina, since each field office is different, each one of our experiences is different. Just be prepared, take with you all pertaining documents. Everything else will be fine. Good luck.
