Engagement Ring Doesn't Fit - Will This Alarm Consulate?

Just don't wear it if your both worried. USEM doesn't care about a ring. It might get lost if a loose fit.

I did the same and got it resized here,. I found it amusing that no jewelry shops there that we went to wanted to make some extra money resizing her ring. I didn't care about the cost. Nope, only if I bought a ring there. It happened at 5 different places.

And they wonder why the have issues mAKing money???

Really? It's incredibly easy to find a jeweler in the Philippines to resize rings for cheap, electronics shops to repair headphones, etc. Not sure where you're looking. Hint: not the mall!

HAHAHA, Had this same problem. I tried to make sure everything was sized just right before i left for Manila, and of course it was still too big. Had to pay another $160 to get it re sized while i was there. and i had the two band ring. but anyway, i dont see where you should have any issues.

Again...really? I think we paid five dollars to have my wife's 18K wedding band resized in her home town of Borongan, Eastern Samar. The guy even gave us the piece of gold he cut out back. $160? You got scammed BIG TIME.

Haha my fiancées ring is too big too. She wears it on her middle finger for now.

Really? It's incredibly easy to find a jeweler in the Philippines to resize rings for cheap, electronics shops to repair headphones, etc. Not sure where you're looking. Hint: not the mall!

She tried to get her ring resized at the mall and they refused to do it claiming it couldn't be done. I told her to try other places, but we decided to wait until she comes here since the place I bought it from will do it for free.

I just asked my wife. I misremembered. It only cost 50 pesos - about a dollar. :innocent:

Yes, it was at 3 different malls.. It all worked out as it was free as soon as we brought it in to where Ibought it in the states.

And we were at the malls each time getting a bite and watching a movie. Tried shopping for clothes in the mall once for her interview and that will be the last. She gets her clothes when we visit friends in AC/Tarlac/Capas tour.. Plenty of good spots with very nice inexpensive clothes.

Just out of curiosity, do you shop at the malls here in the US? In my experience mall shopping is the same everywhere in the world; Poor selection and higher prices to cover the extra costs of running a business in a giant ice box. I love malls for window shopping, the food courts, and the theaters but it always seems you can find better prices at an identical quality if you shop around.

Hi, I'm an American male with a Filipina fiance. We were wondering if the fact that her engagement ring is a size and a half too large would alarm the consulate during her K-1 interview. We plan on getting it resized once she moves here to the US since it has a wedding band that goes with it. For now she can wear a rubber adapter around the base to make it fit, but which would probably be visible.

She does not need an engagement ring at all so I would not worry about it, just don't wear it. My wife, now a US citizen, did not even have an engagement ring until this Christmas...said it was a waste of money and she is still "mad" at me for buying it for her. :P

Not even an issue, leave the ring at home.

Rings are not required at all as part of the immigration process. Only paperwork and money ;)

But shame on you for not knowing her size!

American and Philippines ring sizes are different from my experience. Bought my and engagement ring in the USA that was the same size as the one we bought in the Philippines. It was way too large and needed down sizing by at least 1 size. I think it was closer to 1.5 size difference. Her Philippines engagement ring looked more like a wedding band with a small inset diamond chip, with a small inset diamond chip. Her engagement ring when she arrived in the USA was a more conventional thin band with a large solitaire diamond. I debated giving her the more USA traditional engagement ring there, but I would of been constantly afraid she was at risk of a robbery and injury there.

When I bought my wife's engagement ring in America (Kay Jewelers), it came in a standard size 7. I contacted my wife in Phil and she told me her size, but I decided not to get it resized yet. I was afraid that the size would be wrong, mainly because of the different size of their clothing. I wear a medium t-shirt in America, but a large (sometimes XL) in Philippines. Hell, in December we went to Boracay and 2 of the t-shirts that I bought were XL and are still a little too small for me.

Anyway, we got her ring resized there for about $5 at some hole-in-the-wall jeweler on a side road in downtown Batangas City.

American and Philippines ring sizes are different from my experience.

There is an international ring size standard and most reputable jewelers use it. However there are vanity shops in the US that are following the lead of the fashion industry and misrepresenting their sizes to make people feel better about being overweight or larger than average.

By the way, for many people you can use a similar trick to using you neck to measure the waist of your pants and use your shoe size as a close approximation for your ring size. ;)

My wife does the measure around the neck trick constantly. I wish more women's pants came with waist measurements like some Levis do. We can order those online or at the Levi store, without worrying about what size a size really is. My wife has a 24" waist, so its not easy to find her pants that fit in any case. And even when the waist fits we need the legs hemmed up. We've gone to the petite section in some stores and everything they have is huge, which makes me think the entire section of the store is a vanity section. The shoe trick wouldn't really work on my wife though, her ring size is 4 1/4 while her shoes size is 5, another hard size to find. Its taken a while, but we've learned the places around here where we can get her clothes that fit.

My Girlfriend was sized at 10 by an Indian jeweler in Kuwait, which is equivalent to a 5.5 in U.S. and Canada sizing based on this conversion chart.

Interesting about the shoe/ring size trick... My girl is on the tall[er] side, and would need a size 10 using that method!
