No jobs, they live in the middle of nowhere with some living in villages that are as small as 100 people or less. They are caught between two cultures, throw in the lack of daylight and extreme temps in the winter along with the gas sniffing and this is what you get.

Would never have thought an Eskimo would all of a sudden find his natural environment depressing to the point of suicide.

Countries like Norway also have a high rate...I think its a sun light thing.

Norway actually has a slightly lower suicide rate than the US. In the US, the most suicidal cities are Las Vegas, Colorado Springs and Tucson. Can't be the sun light.

I don't count a person who commits suicide a victim (you should know that by now... lol)

But they're still dead, yes? And the cause of death is still a gun shot. So, they still count as gun deaths.

Back in the day Eskimo's didn't have satellite TV showing them what the real world look like, home made booze along with gas to sniff. They went from the Stone Age to the 20th century. The older ones hunt for food, fish for food, etc...and the younger ones want $200 Nike BB shoes, night clubs, etc....

Booze is banned in most all the villages up here so they sniff gas instead.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Las Vegas (gambling) and Colorado Springs (military) I get. I wonder what's the deal with Tucson?

Perhaps I meant one of the other scandanavian countries? I know there are a few of them with high rates.

Sure there dead, but they aren't a victim. People have the right to take there life so I don't consider it a negative (unless its done in an unsafe manner).

Finland's suicide rate along with Iceland used to be off the hook. It was reaching epidemic numbers a few years back.

Yeah, I embedded a link to that list above. What's up with South Korea?

Not sure. Maybe it's the pressure society thing like Japan. I do know though that a lot of those countries listed above the US have way tighter gun laws than the US.

Those suicides are almost all entirely natives living out in remote villages. They sniff gas, get depressed and blow their brains out. If it wasn't from a gun they would do it with a noose or whatever else was handy atm.

The very first thing done with patients that are potentially suicidal before they are sent home is to secure all guns. The decision to actually commit suicide is usually impulsive and one that may not last more than mere moments. If a more complex plan is necessary it is highly likely a patient will back out before going through with it. Guns are so quick and easy, and therefore far more dangerous than almost anything else.
