Do I? Do you have any idea what it's like out in the real world? In the US a man can go to jail on a DV for telling his wife to ** off. All she has to do is pick up the phone, dial 911 and tell them any bs she feels like telling them. Then comes the jail time, the DV classes and the probation. Most countries laugh at this bs. Again get out of the living room and see some of the real world.

Women here have all the laws bent their way and it's gotten epidemic as far as putting men in jail over a "she said this and he did this". Look I usually take right wing stands on here but even I know when to draw the line. If you think women in the US don't have the laws behind them then you are sadly mistaken. Don't worry about new laws, enforce the ones you already have on the books.

Unfortunately this is very true. I have been on the receiving end of a false restraining order by my ex-wife, her divorce attorney told her to get one, looks better to the judge she said. They hand them out like candy here, no proof of violence or abuse needed, simply tell the judge you're afraid of someone. So now I have that permanently on my record with no way of removing it. Try getting a handgun permit in a blue state with a restraining order on your record, it's nearly impossible without someone to pull some weight for you. I also have a friend that was wrongly arrested for DV because he restrained his wife while she was hitting him with a broomstick. He spent a night in jail and thousands of dollars on legal fees, he eventually got the charges dropped, but he has that all on his record now.

I agree that violence aginst women is a problem and it's certainly nothing I would ever condone, but the DV laws have swayed to a point where any woman at anytime can seriously mess up your life without any solid reasoning whatsoever.

Agreed. And those women who file for it for no reason end up making it harder for the women who are in legitimately bad situations to be taken seriously.

What happened to you is an all to frequent occurence. In some jurisdictions, a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) can get a man locked out of his home and denied access to his children. All too often men get thrown into the Fed DOJ sanctioned meat grinder of the DV machine based on a mere accusation. Even when men call the police as the victim, they are more likely to be arrested.

It's ironic that women's groups, feminist and the men that support them want to keep in place a law intended to combat abuse and violence, yet it becomes a tool for violence and abuse of men and they see no problem. Feminist groups and their supporters don't really want equality when they can hide behind laws like VAWA and IMBRA and use their gender to appear as victims to get differential treatment.

I agree. My Ex-tried the same thing. My lawyer told me many many women claim abuse because it helps their case as you said. One of my best friends, who was herself an "real" abused wife, saw my Ex in public and lowered the verbal boom on her. Explained to her that false allegations against a sweet man like me, made it hard on the real victims of abuse.

And that adds to what I said how? Vanessa and I were pondering what will happen to immigrants who filed for AOS under VAWA. As far as I know, without VAWA this becomes impossible if the immigrant is a victim of spousal violence prior to AOS. The violence becomes like any other -- if an immigrant who is out of status (pre-completion of AOS) gets beat up in the street by strangers, that doesn't entitle him or her to AOS. Would you prefer that any immigrant be able to get AOS on the basis of getting roughed up by anyone? Or would you deny it to all regardless of the source of the violence?

I appreciate the problem of violence of the strong against the weak. I also appreciate the difficulties and even the dangers of immigrating here under fiancee/spouse categories. But I still would much rather see the problem of violence against immigrating spouses dealt with by coming down very hard on the perpetrators rather than creating a reward for the immigrant spouse. There is a very solid and basic reason for this. False claims of abuse are now a real problem and it has the potential to ruin the lives of the decent and honest USC sponsors unlucky enough to get scammed. That reward needs to be taken away and the focus put back on the prosecution of the actual perpetrators of real abuse! It does no good going so far to one extreme that in the process you trample the rights of innocent US citizens!

Came across an interesting article today which I am not allowed to post or quote here because it's not authored in English. Anyway, the article discusses how the justice system in India is in an unusually aggressive manner pursuing the cases against the low lives that gang raped the young woman that has now passed away as a result of that despicable act. The perps are standing trial not for rape but for murder and may very well face the death penalty. As they well should.

They get it in India - I'd say that's a major breakthrough - and yet here we have our own knuckle dragging crowd still not grasping the rather simple concept that it takes extraordinary measures to effect real and lasting change. Whether that needed change is ending the devaluation of women, the discrimination against minorities or against people with disabilities doesn't matter. Violence against women is still quite prevalent in this country. Many boys are still raised believing that violence against women is acceptable. It isn't. Until everyone gets that message, special protections will be required. Looking at the comments of the knuckle dragging crowd here, we're far away from where we need to be.

Yes, they 'get it'! Notice, they don't deal with the problem of violence by giving the victim some reward, rather they do what actually helps solve the problem for the future by aggressively prosecuting the perpetrators. That is why some parts of VAWA are objectionable. It does not help to offer some special reward for filing a VAWA claim, it just creates another layer of victims, the men that get falsely accused and labeled as DV suspects.

And yet, we're in the top 10 for DV prevalence among the OECD nations (bet you didn't know that). That means there is more to be done.

Investigate thoroughly, prosecute aggressively, sentence appropriately. STOP giving special status to those who may be willing to file false reports. Make this a crime that is also aggressively pursued!

Back when I was going through a divorce with the anti christ I was working 2/2's (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off) at the Valdez oil terminal. I was arrested right at my apt. for breaking a no contact order. Apparently the anti christ had called the police stating I threatened her at her job. She knew my work schedule but what she didn't realize is that when she called the cops and made her claim was that I had offered to work co workers hitch instead of coming back to Anchorage for my two weeks off. But I still got arrested, booked and thrown in the slammer. I bailed out but it cost me and arm and a leg and I had to go back to court. When I proved in court that I was actually hundreds of miles from Anchorage at work (Valdez) they dropped the charges but did nothing to her. I asked if she was going to get arrested and booked and all the judge said was that they would red flag the file. Something about if it came up again it would show she lied. BFD! Why wasn't she put in jail for filing a false report? And as far as her paying any of my time lost from work, attorney fee's, etc... the judge said I would have to do that on my time and dime in regards to filing against her.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Another example of a false accusation resulting in a man being tossed into the meat grinder with the accuser walking away.

The scales are tipped big time for the women in this country and if there's ever a reason to become a woman hater it's because of those messed up laws and how they are enforced. Thank OJ in part for that (although I was cheering for OJ the entire time).

A truly bizarre couple of sentences.

The numbers are so distorted because men are reluctant to report DV because of the stigma and ridicule often leveled at men that do report and most men know that if the police arrive on the scene, it is they that will likely be escorted away wearing those shiny braclets. I know up until 2010, DOJ would not allow any grants from the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) to fund studies with regards to male victims of DV.

Those politically correct folks in D.C. are reluctant to even acknowledge that DV is a two way street. Below is an example of one of the grants administered by OVW. With such biased grants used to educate those in law enforcement, it's easy to see why cops, judges and prosecutors have the "get that guy" attitude.

STOP (Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecutors) Violence Against Women Formula Grants to States

The STOP Program promotes a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to enhancing advocacy and improving the criminal justice system's response to violent crimes against women. It encourages the development and improvement of effective law enforcement and prosecution strategies to address violent crimes against women and the development and improvement of advocacy and services in cases involving violent crimes against women.
