House GOP blocks Violence Against Women Act

the violence against 'women' act is a sexist law. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Any law the singles out a certain 'group' is discriminatory in nature.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

-Assault is assault

-Murder is murder

-Theft is theft

It doesn't matter what your reason was, who it was against, etc.. If you want the punishment for something to be 10 years, make it 10 years across the board. Stop trying to treat things differently than what they are.

If people could not discriminate, then your logic would hold water. But since singling out people for being different is pretty much human nature, it's this way.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

considering the nature of dependance in relationships, when immigration is involved especially, there certainly needs to be a process for abuse victims to regain control once out of the relationship. would be nice if it weren't titled specifically for women..

That's the point though, discrimination is natural. It happens. Get over it.

If someone acts though by assaulting another person, why is that different than someone being assaulted for any other reason? The pain is the same. The scars are the same. Why should the punishment be different?

No it isn't. Children don't tend to discriminate unless they're taught to. Noticing the difference in skin color is natural, treating people differently BASED on that isn't.

Easy to say, has anyone discriminated against you? Look at the Sandy Hook shooting, almost 30 people lost their lives, and people are calling for tighter gun control. Chicago just hit it's 500th shooting victim this year, and not a damn thing was done about it. They had 30 people shot in one weekend, and it hardly raised a blip on anyone's radar. But I do agree that the punishment should be the same, a killing is the same no matter what color or gender. But how many men go around abusing other men verses women?

Children discriminate all the time. They're actually more honest about it than adults are. That's the beauty about being a child. Chilren are socially engineered to shut the hell up though over time except when at home. A child will notice something different, will treat something as different. Curiosity in youth may make it seem like a child isn't discriminatory, but at the end of the day the individual still makes that decision on his/her own.

You're truly naive to the psychology of a developing human being if you really think hate is simply taught. It's far more than that and a lot more natural than many would like to admit.

Actually, there's quite a bit of domestic violence in homosexual relationships (amongst men and women) just as there are traditional ones.

Like I said, noticing something different and treating people different aren't the same things. Children are more openly inquisitive, and they'll ask "Why are two women kissing?" out loud ... but depending on the parents' reaction to the question, they won't treat the two women poorly because of it.

You can think it's naive all you'd like, but hating gay people or hating black people isn't something that comes naturally.

I find her posts to be unpleasant and decidedly unladylike.
