So we mailed the I-130 petition from Denmark to the Chicago Lockbox on December 6th using UPS. Through the tracking service we know the petition was received and signed for at the Chicago Lockbox on December 10th. Since we filed from abroad my dad (who lives in the US) was able to help us out by providing a check for the $420 fee. My dad notified me that on December 13th, the funds were removed from his account. To this day I have not received an update on the petition. I have emailed and then finally called USCIS on December 27th. I was told that they could give not find any information with either the petitioner name or the beneficiary name. They kept asking me for what was written on the back of the cashed check. Since I do not have access to my dads banking information, I had to end the call with no new info and confirm with my father that the check had indeed been cashed. He told me that there was no returned check, just confirmation that the transaction had been turned into an electronic fund transfer and $420 had been debited from his account.

Here is where I have an issue, after reading the I-130 instructions it clearly states that if you pay with a check, it will be destroyed and the transaction will be turned into an electronic funds transfer. Why would the agents at USCIS keep asking me to read the back of the check? woudn't they know that they did not return a check? I plan on calling back today, now that I am completely informed. I plan on not ending the call until they give me some kind of information.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have some input? tips on how to deal with this?

Don't expect to get anything in the mail to Denmark from them. Did you include the form to be notified by text or email?

Did you speak to the first person on the phone or were you transferred to an ISO? You need an ISO.

Usually, when doing online banking, you can click on an image on your bank statement and it would show the front and back of the check. This is probably what they are talking about. Do you know if your dad has online banking and if he can check it? They are asking what is on the back of your check because your case number will be stamped on it. Once you get the case number you can track it on uscis.gov.

Next time you speak to USCIS, after giving your basic information tell them to "please transfer me to a tier 2 person". Tier 2 people are who you want to talk to.

With my bank, it just said electronic check both times with USCIS, there was no check image.

I did submit a signed G-1145 form. And that is exactly what my dad said about it just saying electronic check, no check image.

You're looking for big problems where big problems do not exist.

If you're worried you can't check your case status online, not a big deal.

If you're worried you didn't get a text with an NOA1, not a big deal.

If took me over a month for my case status to show up.

You could take a bit longer with the holidays.

If you want confirmation, just call, ask to speak with an immigration services officer, demand to speak with an immigration services officer, speak with with one, then just confirm they have your paperwork.

Like Nola said, they don't like to send stuff to Denmark, and she would know.

If you CAN see your case status online, don't call. There's no need.

If you DID get a text or email stating receipt, don't call. There's no need.

USCIS does not cash the check so this image would not be available. They turn it into an electronic funds transfer only.

Thanks for your input. No need to be patronizing.

That was actually "reassuring", not "patronizing". I know it's hard to read "tone" on the Internet, and easy to be offended by perceived slights. Please try to give others the benefit of the doubt. I know I often come across as didactic and patronizing myself, and I do my best to minimize that, and I appreciate it when people take my help as helpfulness and not as criticism.

I completely understand that this isn't an overnight process. I guess my concern lies in the fact that it has been almost a month and I have not received NOA1. I submitted G-1145. Also thr check has been cashed but when I call they tell me they can't find any information.

When you call insist that they transfer you to someone that can help find your case. Don't take no for answer. The reps who answer really have no clue what is going on. Insist that your check has been cashed and demand to speak to a supervisor to find out your case number.
