I, too, don't think that we will have a necessary majority to propose an Amendment to the 2nd or 14th Amendment in my lifetime, let alone ratify it!

If you guys watch the movie Lincoln, which I personally thought was absolutely great, you'll notice that the only way Lincoln could even get the 13th Amendment passed is by committing impeachable offenses. The only way he escaped impeachment is through a bullet going into his head shortly after.

That said, States can "regulate" arms quite strictly. Case in point . . . yep, California. Since January 2012 we cannot even carry an unloaded gun or magazine from our home into your car's trunk where it needs to be locked into a steel container. Conceal Carry Permit? Needs the signature of the Chief of Police or Sheriff, and they both say "nope, not a chance."

So the "other" 49 states may impose equal legislation eventually. I know Vermont is probably the most open state, followed by Arizona. But my point is that we don't need an Amendment in order to basically make it illegal to have any kind of gun outside our private property.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Here are some other FACTS

5. Heller decision 2008. Debate it all you want, it does not make it easier to pass federal firearms legislation

FACT: Justice Scalia disagrees with you on your supposed fact number 5. I'll wager a guess that the good Justice is a bit more competent on that fact than you, Gary. It's just a guess but I'm pretty comfortable with it.

Scalia, one of the high court’s most conservative justices, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the majority opinion in the landmark 2008 case of District of Columbia v. Heller stated the extent of gun ownership “will have to be decided in future cases.”

...

Scalia said exceptions to gun rights were recognized when the Second Amendment was written, including a tort that prohibited people from carrying a “really horrible weapon just to scare people like a head ax or something.”
