I mailed our packets to the National Visa Center almost 4 weeks ago.. how long does it usually take to hear back from them?? And will they only contact us if they need more information from us? If they approve of the packets, will they just send our file to the Embassy as we are in Australia? And we will then hear from the US Embassy? Thanks :-)

In our case I always sent everything overnight so i would know when they got it. You need to call NVC and check the status of your case. They always tell you that it takes about 20 business days to review documents but in our case it has been 10 days or less. If they review your documents and need additional information you should receive an email stating what they need. If you call and check they can let you know if you will be receiving such an email and you can ask them what additional information they need. Also, if your case is complete I dont think they send out an email letting you know (they didnt with us) but they will send an email when your interview has been scheduled.

Best thing to do is keep NVC on speed dial until your case in complete. Good Luck to you!

         This, this, and more this. We are here in Australia as well. They will send it to Sydney once you get a "case complete". After that they will contact you by email, if you've given them your email address, with the interview date. We are currently waiting on an interview date.

Edit: They also seem to be a bit back-logged from the Holidays, but they should be right back on track very soon. I suggest calling them and asking, as email has been taking 7-14 days for them to respond.

For IR1/CR1 Visa Interviews your case will go to embassy after you have been given the interview date. Usually within about a week than the case gets shipped off. But you need to call for real everyday until you hear those magical words CASE COMPLETE.

Case Complete to Interview spreadsheet

From now on your VJ Member name will be verified. If the name you put on form to be added to spreadsheet comes up not found, you will not be added to the spreadsheet. If you don't have a timeline you will not be added to the spreadsheet.

Thank you all for your quick response!! I did email them last week but haven't heard back. I just tried calling them but because it's New Years Day they are closed! Stinkin' holidays! I will call them again tonight here in Australia when it's morning on the 2nd. It's driving me crazy.... I need to know what's going on! Thanks again for all of your help

I have noticed that when I called them, I would be in queue for 15-20 minutes before someone came to the phone. I usually called them around 9-11am our time... (I live in Sydney)

I have waited on hold that long before too... thanks for the info though. I will try calling again and just wait on hold as long as it takes. I need more patience!

*** Thread moved from CR-1 Process forum to the NVC forum -- topic involves NVC timelines & processes. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
