Hola all,

We are feeling so much better now that we have contact with you guys. Knowing that one is not alone is so very important!!!

Anyways, here's our questions du jour. Can we (I) begin applying for the RCMP police certificates before getting the in-famous packet 3? Also, we will have joint sponsor as our Canadian income does not qualify, yada yada yada. Can the joint sponsor being gathering his IRS filings and stuff? We would love to have pretty much everything ready for when the Montreal gods send us packet 3.

Thanks bunches, L&B.

Yes to both questions.

Police certificate is good for 1 year, and can take some time to get.

As for Affidavit of support the documentation may be stale by the time of visa interview and new documentation may be needed, so wait a bit on this one.

Hiya,

I believe I just read that a police certificate is good for 12 months. However, I read that for the London embassy. Click on Embassy Info above and find yours. There is a lot of helpful info there.

Good luck!

Police certificates are typically valid for 12 mos. However, the police certificate from the country you are now residing in should be "of a recent date". This is obviously subjective and subject to interpretation.

YMMV

Yes, you can start collecting and preparing the "packet 3 documents now. The police cert takes a while to get, and it will still be current in a few months when you go for the interview.

If you've got everything from your end ready when you get notice from MTL, you'll get in line for the interview that much sooner.

Awesome, so I can start up that part by showing up at the RCMP detachment in Edmonton and asking for a name check Canada-wide, right? I read in another thread that fingerprint search is only needed if one has a criminal record, am I correct?

Also, is there a thread which lists all the documents that packet 3 will require?????

Thanks much, L&B

OR... . should I go to the Edmonton Police Service???? RCMP website says they only do fingerprint search....

I don't know the specifics for Canada but you can search MTL visa app documents either here or in the IR/CR forum. You will of course be taking your docs all to the interview (regular IV applicants send their stuff to NVC).

There is a search box hidden at the bottom of the page (search forum) that is handy for narrow searches like this one.

I don't have the specifics on packet 3 but most require you to fill out DS-230, and DS-2001 (Checklist) and return them.

Also see: http://travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/C...er/C/Canada.htm This will help you with police report and where to get.
