It is precisely that mentality that is at the root of our problem with violence! Thinking that violence, especially gun violence and homicide, is the solution to your problems. What person engaged in an act of violence believes he is assaulting or killing the WRONG people? Stupid 'Dirty Harry' fans think they are so clever, that they understand the world around them and know exactly who the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys' are! I am waiting to see when one of these 'concealed carry' Rambo wannabe types shoots a cop by mistake or is killed by a cop. It is just a question of when. The more people carrying guns, the more often it will occur too!

If you can't see how a guy was shooting up a lobby and was stopped cold by someone armed, was a good thing then I don't know what to tell you.

I know but it's like trying to explain math to a dumb blonde. It's pointless but the off the wall unrelated replies are entertaining.

It is good that this ended without fatalities. I do not feel sorry for this idiot getting injured by the police officer who fired at him. Beyond that your accounting of this story is absurd relative to the facts! It is a HUGE difference getting shot while holed up in a toilet when attempting to elude police and getting shot by a police officer compared to what you wanted us all to believe! Where does this story somehow confirm that the answer to shootings like Sandy Hook is having lots of poorly trained, heavily armed Rambo wannabe's out there?

So if a nutter comes into a movie theater packed with people and starts shooting up the place what do you propose would be the best solution to stop said nutter?

I suppose you could pull out your concealed handgun and fire in the direction of the shooter. If he has body armor on as the shooter did in the theatre shooting recently, you will do nothing more productive than draw his fire in your direction. This will be good because you will be dead, rather than someone else. And when the autopsies of the dead later identify one killed by your errant bullet you will not have to deal with that. There are other highly plausible scenarios that also don't end well. I understand, and appreciate, that it IS true that sometimes the good guy with the gun is really a hero. But life is rarely like the movies and things are often not as they seem initially. The best answer is to prevent the shooting from being able to start in the first place!

Another really interesting scenario is that there are multiple concealed carry weapons at the theatre. The theatre is dark (who might have guessed!) and smoke from the first few shots is obscuring a clear view. Multiple people jump up with guns out to be the hero. But since the shooters location was not clear to all some of the fire gets directed at fellow wannabe heroes! The whole thing escalates into a free-for-all and when everybodies mags are empty the identity of who started it all is anything but clear. And maybe some of the really well prepared heroes wore their body armor and survived the return fire. Their wives or girl-friends didn't, not wanting to spoil their appearance by wearing bulky armor!

An option some of us would like is to go to the theatre in a culture/society where gun violence has not been facilitated by absurdly permissive gun laws and where death by gun violence is virtually unheard of. I know the horse is out of the barn on that one but if a way can be found to catch that horse and put him back I hope there would be sense enough to lock it next time!
