Really? How does this story parallel the CO theatre shooting? How does it bolster the armed citizen argument?

Was this gunman in body armor?

Did this gunman have multiple assault, or assault type guns?

Was it just your average citizen with a gun who stopped this shooter?

Not seeing your big gotcha here?

If you can't see how a guy was shooting up a lobby and was stopped cold by someone armed, was a good thing then I don't know what to tell you.

Herschel...THEY DON'T CARE!

You are arguing facts and practiocalities with people that have no interest in facts or practicalities. They only want an excuse to impose the same agenda they have been seeking for decades. If they were interested in facts they would realize that the assault weapons ban was already imposed and allowed to expire because IT DID NOT WORK! No reason not to call for more of the same though.

Herschel, they are not going to get any laws passed on the federal level. Any state inclined to ban ugly guns has already done so.

You are trying to teach pigs to sing.

I know but it's like trying to explain math to a dumb blonde. It's pointless but the off the wall unrelated replies are entertaining.

Yes, all you sick bastards, let's celebrate somebody getting shot.

I am pretty happy that a guy shooting up a theater was shot and stopped . Guess that makes me a sick B

Some folks here will be sorely disappointed.

True. But that's just not the Texas way. After he was no longer a threat, he was transported to a local hospital, where we get to patch him up at taxpayer expense so that he can be in good enough condition to face trial for attempted capital murder (for shooting at the police car in the parking lot,) assault with a deadly weapon, and more. We will also likely have to provide him with legal counsel at taxpayer expense. Then, if he's convicted of the crime(s), we get to warehouse him at taxpayer expense for the duration of his sentence.

Uh, I live in San Antonio, and this story was well reported all over the news here - not "kept quiet" by the media, as your source's headline claims. Your source got additional significant details wrong. (Why you would put your trust in dubious sources like that is another story.)

The suspect did not go into the theater "to shoot more people." He was attempting to escape from an on-duty San Antonio police officer (who had already been called to the scene by people from the restaurant) who came across him in the parking lot as the suspect was chasing someone and firing shots. The suspect then ran into the theater and into a bathroom there without firing any more shots - he was trying to hide from the cops and deputies on his tail. The off-duty Bexar County Sheriff's deputy, along with another off-duty San Antonio police officer, first secured the patrons in the lobby, then followed the guy into the restroom where the final confrontation took place and the female deputy shot the suspect.

She was awarded a Medal of Honor by the Sheriff's Department.

The report I posted was basically the same as the fist news report you posted. Yours said it was not clear if the GF had been shot. A guy was shooting up a theater and an off duty cop plugged him. Pretty much sums it up.

and yet another report here that once again is slightly different than yours . The basics of the story and the positive outcome remain the same. I guess the slightly different versions are a big conspiracy, unlike Newtown, where we still have lots of conflicting stories.

There's a good reason I'm able to pull more facts about this story - I've been exposed to a lot more news coverage of the incident than your blog offers.

The girlfriend was not at the restaurant at the time of the shooting.

By the way, my husband and I were at a different San Antonio theater that very same night, at the very moment the shooting occurred. (We had also gone to see The Hobbit.) I got the breaking news alert on my cell phone...

1. I wouldn't go to the theater they were at either. Not the best part of San Antonio.

2. You had your cell phone on while at the movie? You're lucky you weren't at Alamo Drafthouse.

Haha don't hate on the Southside.

Of course I had my cell phone at the theater - how else will I get breaking news alerts  But most people know to turn the ringer off, (also they run that helpful reminder just before they start the feature film.) I have not heard a cell phone ring during the movie in a long long time... wish I could say the same for screaming babies :(

Since the gunman in the OP was shot by a deputy and not the ubiquitous 'armed citizen' there's very little in your posted article that supports your 'armed citizen' saves another theater massacre claim. You also failed to see all the other differences in your OP vs the CO incident.

I agree - these incidents are very different in many ways.

I don't know anyone here who is opposed to off-duty cops or sheriff's deputies, armed with their service weapons as well as their professional training, providing security at public places like movie theaters. I know I would not have any problem with it.

My point was someone was armed and stopped the potential massacre..

Maybe we should hire off duty cops for the schools. O wait that's a bad idea that would have no effect right.

We already have school district police in San Antonio - they are licensed peace officers of the State of Texas with full arrest powers and all rights of city police officers. (At least one of the news links I posted mentioned the fact that one of the off-duty police officers at the Mayan Theater who helped corner and apprehend the suspect was one of these school district police officers.)

Our local school often has on duty Sheriff's on patrol at or near the campus grounds.
