The U.N. is a joke. We, the U.S.A. do not need U.N. approval to act in our interests.

wow. just wow.

I'm sure we'll understand next time China or Russia acts without UN approval; after all they're just looking after their interests.

kaydee's been hitting the Koolaid a little harder lately.

To them the US and UK invading are the terrorists on their turf. They are protecting their country. Just as anyone would. There are a ton of wrongs being committed on all sides. It is not just 'them, bad' and 'us, good'.

The problem with many republicans is the inability to put the shoe on the other foot and understand that someone else might see it differently, it is the feeling of self righteousness that makes it impossible to see things clearly.

I think what Kaydee is saying is that the U.N., as an entity comprised of mostly tin-pot dictators, doesn't really know -- or want -- what's best for the United States as a whole. Only the U.S. government and it's citizenry know what's best for America; not France or Russia or Germany or whatever other country.

Of course, some people might argue then "how does the U.S. know what Iraq wants?" That's a good question. I'd have to assume that most Iraqis didn't want to live under the oppressive iron-fisted rule of Saddam Hussein. I imagine most everyone wants freedom and their own personal rights. Iraq is slowly, but surely, gaining those. They are getting a democratic government and a defense force. They are learning how to operate as a free country. That's something practically unheard of in the Middle-East. If this experiment succeeds, then it will have all been worth it.

To withdraw now, however, would spit in the face of every American and Iraqi who has sacrified their lives for this ongoing project. Whether or not you personally agree with the criteria for entering this war, the fact remains that the U.S. is there, and must remain there for the long-haul.

To them the US and UK invading are the terrorists on their turf. They are protecting their country. Just as anyone would. There are a ton of wrongs being committed on all sides. It is not just 'them, bad' and 'us, good'.

Who is protecting whose country? The average Iraqi isn't the one we're fighting. The Iraqis, by and large, want us there. We got rid of Saddam Hussein; we're setting up a new democratic government for them, and we're teaching their military how to fight so we can eventually leave. The forces we're fighting are incoming terrorists and insurgents.

You don't think I want us to leave? I'd love to get the hell out of Iraq. We just can't yet. It's not time, and it won't be time until things are stable (or at least, more stable) in Iraq. To leave right now, would invite complete anarchy and chaos to reign down on the citizens of Iraq. They don't deserve that. So as I said before, we can't leave until they have a fully functioning democratic government and a defense force that actually protects them properly.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

You must have missed the Iraqi people celebrating in the streets when Saddam was found guilty? The ones celebrating shoes were on the same foot as mine. Who's shoes are you wearing?

You are familiar with the phrase "two wrongs don't make a right" I assume, Kaydee?

Lemme see....

We should not be there. We (the USA) are the problem and that's why they are there.

If we leave them alone, they will leave us alone.

We should immediately leave IRAQ, as well as Afghanistan as we have no business in either country.

We should ignore Islamist fascists as they pose no threat to us, or our way of life. They have demonstrated that to us many times in the past.

Yes, I see now. You're a liberal.

Can I ask the obvious question here - where were the "islamist fascist" hiding out in Iraq prior to the war? I'm still waiting for that lesson on geopolitics for you to explain it.

Secular-pseudo communist dictator.

Jihadist zealots.

Compatible ideology?

Since when has the word "Liberal" been a derogatory term...?!

My guess - since the time when certain people stopped reading widely and got their news solely by sitting half-cut and red-faced in a dive-bar, ranting at a muted television set...
