We'll go have turkey with the family but it always sickens me that we're basically celebrating the fact that our ancestors were murdered so we can have this country today.

It's all in the niya ;) What do you intend to celebrate for this holiday? For me, it's an excuse to see all my dad's side of the family.

Hopefully, we'll be going to my family's annual thanksgiving celebration at my uncle's house. He was diagnosed with colon about a month ago and is doing ok after surgery, so inshaAllah he'll be well enough to have the entire clan tramp through his house.

Also will be the first Thanksgiving my husband will be coming to with the entire family :o We'll see how well that goes.

Since we always spend Christmas with my family in Italy, Thanksgiving for us is more of an excuse to have an "American Christmas" here at home!

We are going to put all of our Christmas decorations up, and have a nice, cozy day celebrating with our friends. Last year I cooked my first Thanksgiving meal and it turned out pretty good, so I look forward to doing it again this year! I can't wait, already! :P

I just wished it could snow a little that day, but I already know that's not going to happen here in Dallas!

Craig's been a saying a trifle sounds good..how DO you make your infamous chocolate triffle Marilyn???? Recipe??? ;):) M.

mine is very simple....

1 pkg marble cake mix or chocolate cake mix

2 vanilla instant pudding (4 serving size)

1 chocolate instant pudding (4 serving size)

4 cups milk

1 large tub Cool Whip, thawed in fridge

4 Skor Chocolate Bars, or Crispy Crunch, break into pieces (it is easier to break into pieces if frozen)

Prepare and bake cake mix according package directions. Cool and set aside. After cake is cooled cut into smallish squares.

Combine 3 pudding mixes in a large bowl; mix with milk.

Put a layer of cake in bottom of a big bowl, then a layer of pudding, then a layer of cool whip, then sprinkle one of the bars.... Repeat layers..... till bowl is full... ending with the chocolate bar....

My husband's first American Thanksgiving- we are having a big meal here at our house with lots of family and friends. I spent three Thanksgivings in the UK and it was never the same- last year we didn't even bother. The first year I didn't have a pie plate and ended up making pumpkin pies in square cake pans. Because Thanksgiving is a Thursday, we'd always have to have late meals due to people working.....I'm just really looking forward to it this year!! And I already know what I'm thankful for- my husband and I living together with our healthy baby girl- sounds so simple yet seems like it took so long to get here.

See my timeline for all previous dates!

Naturalization:

6/28/09: Mail N-400 to Texas

7/6/09: NOA1

7/24/09: Biometrics

10/08/09: Interview

11/21/09: Receive oath date

01/22/10: Oath Date

With thanks to all the helpful people who made this journey slightly more bearable.

We probably will go to my brother-in-law's place and cook some turkey. Hubby always gets free turkey from his workplace every Thanksgiving, and so does his brothers. Otherwise, we will just stay home and cook something... :)
