I-134 Co-sponsor is US Citizen residing/working abroad

I just posted this in a longer thread but wanted to start a new topic, too.

Our situation is that we need a co-sponsor using the I-134 (K1 visa) because I was working in Ghana last year and made only a local salary (enough for here, but way below the U.S. poverty line) and then before that I was in the Peace Corps.

My step-father is happy to be a co-sponsor, but he is currently living and working (as a university teacher) in Egypt on a two-year contract. He is a U.S. citizen by birth and lived there most of his life.

Is he not a candidate to be a co-sponsor for us because he presently lives outside the U.S.?

2/19/10 Received text message and email notification of application received, check cashed

2/27/10 Received biometrics appointment letter

3/19/10 Biometrics appointment

3/25/10 Received email notice that case will be sent for interview scheduling at local office

3/26/10 Received yellow letter asking to being more tax records/info to interview

3/27/10 Received interview letter (dated 3/24/10)

4/28/10 Interview appointment

6/5/10 Received oath letter (dated 6/1/10)

6/29/10 Oath ceremony date
