No mass murders with hands or feet. Really ... without goggling Ted Bundy comes to mind, then there is the Boston Strangler . The Hillside strangler. I am sure I could come up with many more..

Once again the facts escape you .

But those were murders committed one a time over a long period of time. Not a mass murder.

I think all guns put into the wrong hands are threats, no matter what type of gun they are. It just so happens that assault weapons are the preferred weapon of the nuts that go on these killing sprees. I'm not only in favor of banning all assault weapons, I also want to see much stricter regulations on ALL firearms. I want to have a cap put on the amount of firearms one person can own and I want much more comprehensive background checks done on all perspective gun buyers and I want it to be a federal law, not a state by state.

so you want to ban all assault weapons, which are produce the least mortality in this nation but you don't want to ban handguns which account for over 70% of handgun crimes in the U.S.

By God Forrest you are a genius,.

Correct they were serial murders, none the less a lot of people were killed and still every year in this country more people die from beatings than by assault weapons

Yes, I want to ban all assault weapons, semi-automatic and automatic weapons. Whatever mortality rate they produce really doesn't matter to me, one innocent death is one too many as far as I'm concerned. What does matter to me is that they serve no positive purpose whatsoever in domestic settings, there is no purpose for them in the hands of everyday citizens. Police and military are completely different.

Now hold on to your hat Herschel, this one will shock you. NO, I am not in favor of banning your everyday handguns, rifles and shotguns. I DO believe in a persons right to bear arms, I do believe in a persons right to protect themselves, their family and their property. I just don't believe that any person should be allowed to arm themselves with whatever weapons they chose. Like I stated above, I want a federal law that puts much stricter regulations on these guns, including more comprehensive background checks, and a cap put on how many weapons one person can own.

You have accused me of having at least 3 different stances on guns and gun control in this thread alone, none of which are true. Next time just ask first.

Sounds familiar.

Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose ... The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.

Ok Message board if you don't know why those two sentences are the ramblings of someone who has no clue on this subject, then you should not be in this debate. I am speechless !

As for accusing you having three stances on Gun control, there are at least three different stances in your post above.

I find it sad and depressing (not to mention slightly infuriating) that our nation may resort to the same security measures in order to protect itself from its own citizens. I think it's a slippery slope. Next it'll be malls, hotels, and pretty soon we'll be no different than many of the establishments in the Middle East.

It's actually cheaper and more cost effective to bring back legalized dueling.

Seriously.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

That is not the America I love and envision.

Hear, hear!

But hey, what you describe there is precisely the America that the gun nuts want. Everyone ought to run around with their guns everywhere - the bigger and badder the better. What they want is a country where everyone is afraid of everyone else at all times in all places. Some even want to drive their own private tank to the mall and carry their own little nukes around in their backpacks. That is what they all have wet dreams about. They're called nuts for a reason.

Of course not. This is where stricter access control and gun regsitration comes in. Not everyone should have access to a firearm. There are too many people unfit to handle them out there having easy and ready access to them. That must be addressed as well.

And you think his mother would have been denied access to a lever action rifle?

And, again, we see that your plan is to do far more than ban ugly guns. I am shocked. I had no idea there was gambling going on in Casa Blanca!

But thank you for, again, telling us your agenda.

Good thing nothing will come of this.

Why? Well one reason is because NRA members are not gerrymandered into safe districts and represent a potent voting force in a majority of congressional districts. It means such legislation is DOA in the Hosue of Representatives. Unlike, say, African Americans that are gerrymandered into "safe districts" and eliminated in others so they can be ignored politically. NRA members, though there are less than 5 million of them, swing a far bigger political stick than just about any other group except possibly the AARP. Watch and see. Fortunately there are dozens of NRA members in the House of Representatives and Senate. Many of them are even board members. Many more than any other organization/group/special interest of 5 million members.

Hey, does it strike you as odd that when Gabby Giffords was gunned down...Obama said nothing? When dozens of people were killed in a theatre, Obama said nothing? When more were killed in a shopping mall...Obama said nothing and NOW, after the election, he says something? Are you making a connection here?

Does any of that indicate anything to you? So WHO, exactly, do you think is going to vote for a bill that will result in the end of their political career and pass it on to a guy that will never stand for election again?

I will watch with interest.

How do you feel about a police officer in every school paid for by gun owners?

Ted Bundy? How many people did Ted Bundy kill with his hands and feet in any one attack? I differentiate between someone killing a dozen people in as many months or years or someone doing that deed in as many or fewer minutes. Maybe I should have used the term "massacre" rather than "mass murder" but you know of course what I was talking about. You just felt it was a good idea to come up with Ted Bundy for whatever reason.

Maybe you should goggle - might help you see clearer.

Like Vermont? Anyone can run around with their guns anywhere. No one is afraid. Few people even lock their doors.

It is horrible. Just horrible.

Oh yeah, and what is our ranking in the crime rates? You seem to like to post stats, why not that one?
