Okay, I've stated, re-stated and broken apart any which way it can be broken down into easy to digest pieces as to what my position is. I ain't getting paid to teach comprehension to you. And I ain't gonna do it for free.

All ihave heard is ban weapons that look like Hollywood weapons and restrict access. Kind of a sketchy position.

Once again why are you for banning the weapons that produce the least morbidity every year.

Are you for banning handguns ?

The line in red is not discussing the banning of firearms in general, just to those the state determines are not fit, ie mentally ill IMO.

How many people in your state are determined legally, by the state, in a court of law, that they are mentally unfit to have guns. Compare that with a reasonable estimate of how many people suffer from significant mental illness. The first is a very tiny fraction of the second! So why do you see this as any significant solution?

Perhaps it points to a solution though. Make it an iron-clad rule that before purchasing a gun and yearly thereafter to continue legally possessing it that you must pass a comprehensive psychiatric exam and you must pay for the exam yourself!

So what about private prison companies pressuring lawmakers not to change course on our failed 'war on drugs'! You can't make that up either! :bonk:

Really I assume you have some real proof of this

Your can't be serious.. How about in order to vote we make one pay for and pass a Psychiatric exam.. That would probably do more a lot for the country.

You have really gone over the cliff

No it would be like treating a 95% blockage with aspirin and magic tricks and ignoring the bypass

The best analogy would be looking at keeping handguns and semi-auto weapons out of the private ownership domain as being like preventing the heart problems in the first place by stopping smoking, getting regular exercise and eating a healthy diet. Prevention is far better than treatment!!!

So you are in favor of a complete ban of all Semi-automatic weapons and handguns ?

 You're probably right!

Can you imagine how long that law would be active before it was struck down. What 10 mins top.

I would not have a problem with gun owners having to take a fire arms safety course and pass a test to be able to buy weapons. I don't see that as a undue burden. we do it to get a drivers license and should do it to vote.

I think that most gun owners would agree with that.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

If you want to just say keep guns away from the crazies then it falls on you to propose a mechanism that would be both constitutional and effective. You have not done so.

Mentally ill people voting is far less a threat than them having weapons. But based on some of the unhinged rantings at tea-party rallies I think liberals might gain from your proposal!

something i find out throughout all of this discussion about "assault weapons" and so on - people are up in arms (pun intended) about the AR, claiming it's the weapon of choice for mass shootings. it may be for the uninformed, both to use and pitch a fit about.

here's something to consider: the 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot. this more than a century old firearm packs more firepower than the AR with a 30 round magazine.

first - 00 buckshot. there's usually 9 of these in a shell. that's 9 .33 caliber balls. each weighs (in this example, copper plated ones) in at 50 grains.

for comparison, the AR fires a 5.56 bullet that weighs 55 grains.

a shotgun can, with one pull of the trigger, send downrange 1.5 times the same number of projectiles held by a .32 revolver (.32 revolver fires a 85 grain bullet). if one wants to calculate the per grain weight of the projectile, that's equal to just over 8 rounds of AR ammo. most shotguns hold 5 rounds, so that's more firepower than an AR with a 30 round magazine.

and yes, there are shotguns out there that are magazine fed.

lesson concluded.

eta: Leon Czolgosz used an Iver Johnson revolver in .32 S&W to shoot President William McKinley on September 6, 1901

Get the 3" magnums and you get 15 00 pellets. Devastating short range weapon. Even hip shooting would be effective.

yes, provided one has a firearm that chambers those. 2 3/4 is the most common still - and a 3" magnum = less rounds overall.

But it is an easily available non assault weapon that could do just as much if not more damage than an assault rifle. If I'm defending my home, I'll probably chose the 12 gauge over the AR or HK, etc.

I'd hit it anyway.
