Does that or anything else these assault weapon ban idiots say make sense. It's ok to deploy a swat team to a school if it's already under attack, but you are a nut if thinking having a cop onsite makes sense.

We already incarcerate a far higher percentage of our population in prison than any other advanced democracy. Some have suggested that prisons are basically graduate school for thugs. Maybe we need some other solution!

Prisons are an industry. As any industry, it must grow. The privatization of prisons and the increasing incarceration of people go hand in hand. Rehabilitation does not serve the corporate interests of prison corporations. They must work to ensure a steady and growing stream of inmates - otherwise, they will fail their shareholders. This is all about profits and bottom lines. It is not about lives or opportunities or re-integration of individuals that have run afoul of the law at some point in time. It's about growing the prison industry and its bottom line.

Let me tell you what would have "definitely" made a difference. If this deranged beneficiary of all you gun nuts constantly fighting for the privilege of few if any restrictions on availability of guns including the most easily lethal ones for mass shootings instead lived in a more sane society that did not allow the proliferation of these agents of mass death! This is getting a bit tiring. Can't you consume more than two or three words at a time? The issue now highlighted for you. It's in the same response that you have looked at a half a dozen times now.

Mr. Big Dog--Why are you all hung up on that assault weapons ban discussion? That's the least of the worries. Preventing access to firearms - all firearms - to people who should not have such access is what the issue is. THAT is what needs to happen. Assault weapons should not be in civilian hands - that is common sense. We know that gun nuts lack common sense so naturally they will not ever be able to grasp the obvious. It's not the big issue but those should come off the streets all the same.

See that? That's not a ban but measures of sanity and responsibility. In addition to that, I maintain that assault weapons in civilian hands serve no valid purpose while they are fairly consistently the very weapons used in these horrific massacres. They do zero good and plenty of damage. Hence, they should be banned. There isn't a single valid reason that has been offered in support of keeping assault weapons available to the civilian public.

So, as you can see, I have not changed my position. There's also nothing absurd about banning certain types of weapons from civilian use. We do that already. Lots of weapons are banned for civilian use and reserved for military or police use only. Assault weapons ought to be added to that group of weapons that should not be available to civilians.

No, it is much more like treating that heart attack with aspirin!!! It does not prevent all deaths but it makes a substantial difference and that is why, as a sane society, we put in place the programs necessary to see that aspirin is given when a person has chest pain!

DENVER (MarketWatch) — The more children judges locked away, the more money owners of a for-profit juvenile detention center could make slamming the bars.

Federal prosecutors called it “Kids For Cash.”

An owner of a private detention center, Robert Powell, was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in prison Friday for allegedly paying kickbacks to two county judges in Pennsylvania. Powell got off relatively easy after cooperating with prosecutors.

Earlier this year, Luzerne County’s former president judge Michael Conahan was sentenced to 17 1/2 years, and Judge Mark Ciavarella, a.k.a. “Mr. Zero Tolerance,” was sentenced to 28 years.

The case is a testament to the effectiveness of economic incentives, getting county judges to incarcerate kids just for doing what kids sometimes do:

—A 10-year-old girl reportedly got a month in a detention center for accidentally setting her bedroom on fire.

—A 13-year-old boy reportedly got 48 days for throwing food at his mother’s boyfriend during an argument.

—A 16-year-old girl reportedly got a month in a boot camp for creating a Web page making fun of the assistant principal of her high school.

—A 17-year-old boy reportedly got five months for drug paraphernalia — not drugs themselves — and it was his first offense.

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania had to dismiss 4,000 juvenile cases because of the compromising kickbacks.
