Hello VJers,

I wanted to see if there are any canadian citizens on this forum that were born outside of canada and whether or not they had a difficult time at the consulate? placed in AP? or anything else? Please share your experience if you fall into this category, Thanks :)

If you or your parents were born in a country that isn't on friendly terms with the US then you will probably be put into AP. Recently someone from Brazil obtained a K1 through Montral and they had no issue because Brazil is friendly with the US. But another VJer who was born in Canada but their parents were born in Egypt was placed into AP. In other words it depends on where you were born.

Ok, I thought mostly men are put into AP but I guess not, so it doesn't go by case to case basis? no matter what they will place you in AP?? this totally sucks, I was born outside of Canada but never been back to my birth place I really hope I don't get placed in AP simply because I was born in a country that is not on best terms with the US :(

Oh and I read somewhere they place you in AP when you have a hit on your name (when you have a common name, mostly muslim names) I'm not muslim nor have got a common name.

Some countries go to automatic AP. You'll still get your visa if you come prepared with all the usual stuff but it'll take longer for it to be issued. Yeah you can also get placed in AP if you have a name hit. As far as I know gender doesn't have to do with it; the VJer who's parents were from Egypt is a lady and I think she was in AP for 2 months. It's not fair but at least knowing this you'll be prepared. If you are not from a country that is in friendly relations with the US then you can expect to wait a little longer for your visa to be issued.
