I was reading that my fiance will need to obtain a police certificate and bring it with him to the interview. What exactly is a police certificate? And where does he get one?

You can start by going to the embassy website of the country you need. A police certificate is the police report. naming any arrests or whatever reported to police. Wherever you have lived for 6 months since age 16 you must get a police certificate/report from that country.

Hi, I had the same problem because I didn't know what it was called in Algeria. It's basically his police record showing he doesn't have any criminal offenses. He can get it from a police station or court. Hope that helps :)

hello;

a police certificate is called "casier judiciaire" in Algeria;he can get it in the court,but he needs to bring with him his birth certicate & also the birth certificate of his father and his paternal grandfather.

it's a fast procedure,it only takes 1 to 2 hours.

Good luck.

True! - It costs about 20-30 dinars, but is only good for 3 months. It expires after that so he will most likely need one for the NVC stage, and at least one for the interview/approval stage. We went fairly quickly but my husbands expired from the time it went to the NVC to the time they gave him an interview. He needed to bring a new one. Then, he had to do yet another one when they issued his visa as the one from the interview expired by then. Basically he just needs to keep a close eye on the expiration date through every step.

The German one doesn't have an expiration date on it but hey told me it's good for 3 months so I got a new one. Oh well. I hope I don't have to translate it again.
