There are shifts in attitudes when it comes to gun control. Guess the NRA and other gun nuts have done an effective job convincing ever more Americans that we have sufficient controls on the books and that this issue is merely one of enforcement. This is why the share of people that support retaining existing gun controls has been going up while the share supporting stricter gun controls has gone down. But in the aggregate, that's still 90% of the population favoring gun control at existing or stricter levels while only 10% favor less restrictive gun laws. That's all I was saying and there's the back-up you asked to see.

I don't count on Piers Morgan to change attitudes. But I suspect when people learn that anyone that cannot buy a gun at a regular gun store where a background check must be performed and passed, in many states that same person can just walk across the street to a gun show and purchase all the guns he wants - no background checks required. And if you happen to live in a jurisdiction where there is no gun show available, just go online and get your fix - again, no background check required. I don't think that most Americans would support this idiocy or continue to believe that we have effective controls in place and just need to focus on enforcement. That NRA propaganda needs t be exposed for what it is - a big fat fraud. Then you'll see the numbers change in favor of stricter laws.

Simple math, ain't it?

I agree with you that the gun show loophole needs to be closed. Probably not for the same reasons you do though. I think it's unfair that licensed firearms dealers are required to run a background check, but people at gun shows are not.

I agree there's a problem when 20+ kids get mowed down at school. No doubt about that. However, some British guy going on TV with an obvious anti gun bias, hurts the discussion rather than helps it. He totally berates and doesn't allow anyone to finish their sentence if they are pro gun rights. Shows videos of a guy firing an obviously fully automatic weapon in relation to the Newtown tragedy, when no fully automatic weapon was used. IMO he should have taken a job with Fox or MSNBC if he wants to pull $hit like that. Or better yet, get a show on Air America if they're still around.

I still want to know what is going to be done about 300+ million legal and illegal guns in this country? The only solutions I have had heard is some buy back thing, which is a total farce.

So Pierce Morgan went off the cliff on TV over the gun nuttery in the US. So what? Get a spot on CNN and get your rant on air.

As to the 300 million guns already in circulation: I don't know what the solution is. I do know what the solution is not: adding more guns to that already insane number. The solution has got to be strict control at the point of acquisition, registration of firearms and then seizure - over time - of non-registered and unlawfully acquired guns along with effective penalties for those that own and carry them. These 300 million guns didn't pop up over night. They won't disappear overnight either. In fact, many of them will remain out there with their lawful owners to whom they are lawfully registered.

I didn't win Celebrity Apprentice, so I'm probably not qualified to have my own show on CNN. I did do a hell of a job decorating our Christmas tree this year. Maybe I'll send them a photo of that with my resume.

Yeah I agree, there's no easy answers.

543 gun related deaths in Chicago last year alone and this wasn't an issue. 30 white kids in suburbia get whacked by a whacked out kid of a registered gun owner and it's the biggest thing since sliced bread.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I bet if all 543 got whacked at once it would be big news. The media doesn't give a $hit. It's about ratings and hype.
