Dear Visa Journeyers,

I'm a US citizen patiently waiting for my wife's CR-1 process to finish. :bonk:

However, I'm concerned about the embassy interview questions she will be asked:

  1. When was the last time you saw your husband?
  2. How many times did he visit you during this visa process?
  3. Where did you go for your honeymoon? Show some pictures.

Due to my job, I haven't been able to visit her since our marriage in Summer 2012. And I don't think I'll get any vacation time to do so until Summer 2013. :(

Also, we postponed our honeymoon until she comes to USA (Hawaii or bust!) because we didn't feel safe traveling around by ourselves in a foreign country. Well, even though she's a citizen of that foreign country, she never traveled by herself either. :innocent:

Because our situation is rather uncommon, I fear that my wife will have a tough time at the embassy interview and our case may even be rejected. I think we'd stand a better chance if I could accompany her to the embassy interview and explain the situation to the immigration officers.

Is this possible? Can a US citizen to accompany his wife on her CR-1 embassy interview?

Thanks!

Hi,

I haven't seen my wife since we married in September 21 2011, we just received our NOA2 on the 17th of this month. I asked myself the same question, and don't see a reason why it would be a problem as long as you have proof of an ongoing marriage. The most important part of the interview is for her to be very prepared with all paperwork in order and confident in all her anwers. You can attend the interview if you are able too, but is not required. I don't remember reading anywhere that you must have seen your spouse within a certain time frame. I looked in the travel.state.gov website and couldn't find anything.

Hope this helps.

Carlos

It depends on what country your wife lives in. It is embassy specific.

According to the Embassy information for Columbia, yes YOU can attend the interview.

Updated 5/2012

http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Colombia&cty=Bogota

And it is not always true that a spouse can attend the interview, it is country/embassy specific.

:wow: Thanks for your helpful (and fast!) replies everyone!

I checked the VJ embassy pages for my wife's country and saw this:

  • Delhi, India
Can fiance(e)/spouse attend the interview? Yes
  • Mumbai, India
Can fiance(e)/spouse attend the interview? No :bonk:

So I would like to try and attend the interview in Delhi, India.

Do we get to choose the embassy or is it assigned to us by USCIS/NVC?

Thanks!

Not sure for a spousal petition. I'm sure someone else can help answer this here.

Also, my advice is to change your country to India on your profile. That way it's posted in the country specific forum as well. Members there can assist you with country specific questions you may have.

Good luck!!

Good luck to you though!!

The NVC assigns the file, you don't get to choose. The assignment of Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulate in Mumbai will be determined by the address of the beneficiary.

Awesome! Thanks again for your replies everyone.

Since my wife's postal address is in southern India, I think she will be assigned to the Mumbai Consulate, in which case I'm not allowed to accompany her to the CR-1 interview.

So I've no choice but to prepare her for the interview questions and have perfect paperwork and evidence of ongoing marital relations. :secret:

Like others have said, it think it is country specific. I attended my wife's interview in Manila, Philippines. All I had to show to enter the embassy was my US passport. It is nice to be there with your spouse. It gives your spouse more crediblity and moral support of course. Good luck.
