Hi everyone! My fiance and I are filing out form DS-157 we just found out its required and it asks about his military service. My fiance did his required military service in the marines and then he enrolled in the marines. He left the marines about 4 years ago. One of the questions say "Do you have any specialized skills or training, including firearms, explosives, nuclear, biological or chemical experience? If yes, please explain." Since he was in the marines I was going to have him mark yes and then write - basic firearms training while enrolled in marines. Is that ok or am I supposed to write anything in particular? Also just out of curiosity this won't put him at risk of not receiving his visa right?

Lots of people do military service in their countries. Many countries even require it. It doesn't really affect the visa chances unless you were in some paramilitary militia or terrorist group. Yes write something like basic firearms training but you should ask him if there is anything else he was trained to do to put on the form. They may or may not ask about it at the interview.

I assumed it wouldn't affect his visa chances I just wanted to be sure. I asked him and he said basic firearms training I asked if they taught him anything about explosives and he said they discussed it and he saw some things but never really any training his commanding officer was a lot more into teaching them about firearms so he stuck to that. I assume I can just put firearms then since he was never formally trained in anything else.

Thank you so much for your response.
