SAN FRANCISCO — Downloading a gun's design plans to your computer, building it on a three-dimensional printer and firing it minutes later. No background checks, no questions asked.

Sound far-fetched? It's not. And that is disquieting for gun control advocates.

Rep. Steven Israel, D-NY, said the prospect of such guns becoming reality is reason enough for the renewal of the Undetectable Firearms Act, which makes illegal the building of guns that can't be detected by X-ray or metallic scanners. That law expires at the end of 2013.

At least one group, called Defense Distributed, is claiming to have created downloadable weapon parts that can be built using the increasingly popular new-generation of printer that utilizes plastics and other materials to create 3-D objects with moving parts. University of Texas law student Cody Wilson, the 24-year-old "Wiki Weapons" project leader, says the group last month test fired a semiautomatic AR-15 rifle — one of the weapon types used in the Connecticut elementary school massacre — which was built with some key parts created on a 3-D printer. The gun was fired six times before it broke.

Though no independent observer was there to verify the test, a short video clip showing the gun firing and breaking was posted to YouTube. Federal firearms regulators said they are aware of the technology's gun-making potential, but do not believe an entire weapon has yet been made.

"What's chilling is that last month a group of kids used a 3-D printer to actually manufacture (key parts) of the AR-15 and fire six bullets," Israel said. "When the (act) was last renewed in 2003, a gun made by a 3-D printer was like a Star Trek episode, but now we know it's real."

Firearms have been around since the 1300s. They are not high tech. They were made by Mujahadein by hold metal with their feet and filing the parts to shape based on a captured rifle that had been dismantled. Everything from plumbing pipe to car antennas have been used to make guns. The most popular and respected auto pistols in the world, such as the UZI and made from stamped sheet metal. The guy that does your seamless gutters has a machine that could as easily run out the receivers for UZIs. You could buy the tools you need to make guns from Home Depot or Lowe's. They would be less difficult and need less equipment to make than the furniture I build for a hobby. Plans for them are no problem. They have been around for centuries.

A 3rd grade education and some OJT will be enough to make functional firearms, even good firearms. The people of St Petersburg, Russia developed the PPs submachine gun during the full seige of the city, building them with plumbing pipe and vehicle axels. The design became the famous PPSh (papasha) known to every FSU school child to this day as the gun that saved the Rodina! (motherland) Even with their cities destroyed the Russians turned out the simple stamped submachine guns by the millions and handed them out to anyone and everyone. At Stalingrad they had one 19th century bolt action rifle for every three men. In Berlin they had a machinegun in every man's hands. The famous British STEN and American M3 "Grease Gun" were made from muffler pipe!

The Liberator pistol, a single shot throw away .45, was dropped by the millions at a cost of $1 each into France with simple pictogram directions on how to use it to kill a German to get HIS gun.

Firearms are exceedingly simple devices. "Gun" laws are easily circumvented and will only get easier to circumvent with new technology.

Now a finely made and finished firearm is a work of art, but is not necessary to kill someone. Rude and crude and homemade will do for that.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

 I rather sleep in my own bed, not at the foot of the bed like a pet. I am not into that whole cuckold thing, but as long as I can't see it from where I am standing, it don't bother me if you do.

####### are you babbling about? You don't know much about RUB women do you?

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."
