And these incidents usually do not occur in districts that have them.

Of course, you'll still need armed personnel. Without them, a killer could simply walk through the detectors as they went beep beep beep.

There may even be a good argument for fewer, larger schools and designing each super-school the same way we design airports.

We could design them along the lines of Penal institutions. Then when the teachers fail to educate them, they can return sometime during their adult lives for an extended visit.

So what about movie theaters? Should we start having armed police officers outside of them too? What about disgruntled employees who come into work and blow away a few coworkers? Let's just have armed police officers in cubicles.

I'll just start packin' heat to work and when I go to the movies! No big whoop.

Movie theaters, corporate facilities - the private sector can handle security there as they see fit.

Public schools are places we, the people, set up to educate our children. We owe it to them to keep them safe in a country awash with firearms. You can talk about gun control all you want but the fact that America has more weapons per capita than Yemen and Iraq combined isn't going to change in the short term future. For that short term, schools must be fortified.

They haven't thought that far ahead. They can't.

Back to our anti-teacher agenda so soon? I thought you'd wait another week.

So how do you stop a bad guy with a gun, if not with a gun ?

How bout restricting the bad guys access to guns to begin with? All you gun nuts are doing anything and everything you possibly can to avoid the actual problem...............the guns!

Good, then everyone that pays taxes yet does not have children in public schools should stop paying any kind of tax that would help fund said schools.

Not everyone pays school tax anyways. I am just trying to suggest a way of funding the cost of armed guards in schools since we need them due to easy access to guns. Pay up!

Even if you did that. Even if gun sales dropped to ZERO today and every day going forward...

We already have more guns per capita in this country than Yemen and Iraq combined. COMBINED!

That's a serious problem which we must defend against. The gun nuts are everywhere. No one is safe, anywhere. Your best friend may be a gun nut. Your wife may be a gun nut. Your sons best friends father may be a gun nut.

The gun nuts must be destroyed but that will take time (since they're like cockroaches, there's so many of them and they multiply so fast!) so in the meanwhile we need to spray our schools with RAID. I mean metal detectors.

I am a callous old ####### at times. I have seen enough of these tragedies in my lifetime to be numb. Getting older means you see more people you know more frequently in the obituaries.

Other than illegals who would that be?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

So get rid of easy access to ammo.

I hope this isn't the meaningful compromise the NRA was talking about. This is like the American Medical Assiociation saying the answer to childhood obesity is feed kids more cheeseburgers, fries , and supersize cokes.

I think there could have been meaningful compromise on gun legislation without touching the second amendment, but I'm not sure anymore. Not with this kind of mentality.
