are those locks on solid doors or window doors? a lunatic w/ a gun bent on causing as much carnage as posible will just shoot the glass & walk right thru.

Solid yes, but I doubt they are bullet proof. It may sow a shooter down but I am not kidding myself that it is fully secure.

wouldn't you feel better knowing there was an armed guard on campus, if someone got thru those doors?

Non lethal solutions are the best IMO...Tasers etc.

i can agree with that. but, its still an armed guard.

I still don't see why we need to stop at guns, there are lots of inappropriate behavior in society. It all should be insured, statistically speaking. We should be forced to purchase liability insurance from birth.

Potential cost of damage (harm or injury) is unparalleled except maybe with automobile accidents, for one. Second, you really can't get a home loan without homeowner's insurance, which covers most liability.

I can currently sue my neighbor if he shot me due to his negligence, but if my medical bills are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, he's not going to have that kind of money. I want to make sure he does.

ETA: Responsible gun owners will appreciate the peace of mind with being covered should they ever be sued and the market will give them the lowest rates because they will take the necessary steps to minimize their risk.

That would be found unconstitutional. Kind of like saying people can't vote unless they have the state required voter ID card.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I could be wrong but I think you can get insurance that stops at covering the structure for a loan.

Regarding the other, I slept on your idea and actually realized it should apply to all of society and is a great idea.. Every year a person's hobbies and property should be assessed and they should be mandated to pay personal liability insurance. Minors would go on their parents insurance until 18 and could stay until 25. It certainly would create an expanded industry and grow our economy.

I don;t know. If they were highly trained, probably. But with what the school systems can pay, I would worry that people who are not suitable would get the jobs.

I was sort of joking...but actually in all honesty I think it would be a great idea - it would streamline insurance as we know it. All of your liability could be compressed into a single package. All losses in society would be automatically covered etc. You can't argue it wouldn't make life more streamline and efficient.

Satellite imagery and metal detectors will locate all the weapons not turned in willingly by law abiding citizens. I am sure red blooded American women will let the authorities know where all the poorly endowed men live.

That's an idea I'm on board with. laughing.gif

I've heard some suggestions of putting unemployed veterans in charge of school security. That sounds like something I'd be on board with (as an interim solution). They are obviously in need of employment and military trained.

Parents would scream about this too. They'll stereotype every veteran as having PTSD.

if they have wire in the glass, they are pretty tough and would stand up to quite a few shots trying to breach it.

And that would be a valid concern. If I were a parent I would also. There you go....it's gets ever more complicated when you talk about a solution to a complex problem. There would have to be complete psych evaluations, background checks of course, and a multitude of other things I'm sure. There would certainly need to be a very thorough screening/hiring process that is acceptable to parents and staff at the schools- more thorough than say the screening process for a security guard at a hotel.

this is my issue as well. the gun is only going to be as effective as the person behind it..
