Real America is very different from your frozen wilderness.

We don't get many bears in these here parts.

How's that Scott? A bear kills, a whacked out killer kills. What's the best protection from both? A gun.

And yes real America has bears. We had plenty of Black bear in Washington state when I was growing up. Not all of us live in a bubble.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

so, do any of the anti-gun people in here have a plan to rid the US of guns?

yah thats gonna work. the police can't get illegal weapons off the streets. getting legal one from people is going to so much simplier. the government can't round up 15-20 million illegal aliens because its too time consuming & costly. removing 300 million guns will be a cake walk.

Satellite imagery and metal detectors will locate all the weapons not turned in willingly by law abiding citizens. I am sure red blooded American women will let the authorities know where all the poorly endowed men live.

Good point. They're building huge American-style malls in India these days. I went to India earlier this year and the interiors look like anything you'd find here (but newer and nicer) with one difference - security. Every car is searched before allowed into the underground parking garage. Every bag you have is searched before you are allowed in. And the large department stores won't even let you enter with any bags - they must be checked in with security.

What I found a little amusing was that the female security guards were more intimidating than the male ones. The men were all no more than 100-110 pounds. The women were huge. And mean. You could see the evil in their eyes

You haven't been back for a pretty long while then, I remember getting frisked back in 2008 at the mall...which is creepy - and you're totally right about the women, they don't play! Also, in some theaters in Delhi [since people mentioned that too] you can't bring in any bags nor are there lockers available to store things [bomb issues] plus you walk through a metal detector at some - if that's a shadow of how things will be then I will be spending more time and money at the redbox. Creepy.

Our local school system uses sheriff deputies as "resource officers" who are on site when school is in session. They are armed but typically not "patrolling" the school - more or less they hang out in their cruisers in the parking lot with the occasional trip into the office to gossip. This is only at the high school level, not at the middle/elementary schools. I thought that was creepy too when we moved here but I think it is more a method for keeping a certain number of deputies on the force [re-allocation of county funds] and less to do with safety. Of course, now our sheriff can proclaim his foresight outstanding...meh.

Most of us live in cities where the only dangerous animals are the ones with the guns!

They have had armed security at a few Anchorage, Alaska malls for years now. I think it has more to do with the kids that hang out there than anything. There have been a few shootings at those malls and every time but one it was high school aged kids involved.

As far as the cops in the schools, the police in Anchorage are pushing for it and like you pointed out, it's more for job security than anything. The cops in Anchorage make a heck of a lot of money and a trained and armed security guard would come for less than half the cost of a police officer. Usually those security guards are ex military.

And you think the criminals that aren't registered gun owners are going to give up their guns right? Again start doing some homework before posting on these threads. Look at the crime rate in larger cities and then start looking to see if they were registered gun owners. Again for the umpteenth time on this forum, Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the USA, yet the highest crime rate. Over 5000 people have been killed by guns in Chicago since 2001. Do you really think those shooters are registered gun owners or better yet card carrying members of the NRA?

are you suggesting we hire a bunch of mall cops for school security?

Have you ever been to a court house that had a armed security guard on hand? Lay off the trolling for once and try making a serious post. If you don't have anything meaningful to add to this topic then why post?

Christie: Armed Guards In Schools Not The Solution

In contrast to National Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ® on Friday said he doesn't think putting armed guards in every school is a sound response to last week's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.

"In general I don't think that the solution to safety in schools is putting an armed guard because for it to be really effective in my view, from a law enforcement perspective, you have to have an armed guard at every classroom," Christie said while appearing at an event in Newark, N.J. "Because if you just have an armed guard at the front door then what if this guy had gone around to the side door? There's many doors in and out of schools."

Well if Chris Christie says it ain't so then it must be. I'm sure he had a child that was recently murdered in school by a crazed gunman.

I never insinuated the schools hire mall cops. I said trained security guard. People are ok with having security guards at court houses, why not schools?

you don't know the difference between a court house and a school? namely, one is filled with scum and the other filled with innocent minds.

what i asked wasn't a one liner. you stated alaskan cops were well trained and well paid, but simple security guards could come much cheaper. if you're proposing arming people in schools, go figure you'd also propose cutting corners on the quality of the personnel..

Ya schools don't have criminals yet 30 of those kids got whacked in a suburban school the other day. I mean I doubt that theater in Colorado was a criminal mainstay yet a bunch of people got whacked all the same.

And ya cops are top of the line but the ones in Anchorage make well over a $100,000 a year when you thrown in OT. Something like the security guard they have at the local USCIS office or court house. Something of that nature.
