I am working on preparing my new application adn gathering my evidences of a bona fide relationship, roll eyes, but I am unabel to pritn RebTel call receipts older than one year old.

"Can I request documentation of my account history/receipts? You can open your receipts at any time by logging into your Rebtel account online, opening your My Account history and clicking the link of the payment for which you wish to open a receipt. You can see your full Account History (all calls and payments) up to 12 months back. If you wish to receive calling history which is more than a year old, you can contact the Rebtel Support Team and they will do their best to help. However, we cannot offer calling history to be sent to you on company header, the PDF document is your official history."

Moral of the story? Print out your call records before they are over a year old.

Hi Gowon. I've read your posts and followed your story since I've joined. I know you have a wedding coming up very soon. Congratulations. I'm hoping for a successful interview and easy approval when our time comes but since its Lagos... I'm gathering info for plan B. I read about getting married in Nigeria and it was sooooo confusing. Something about signing up 21 days prior to the marriage and then some nonsense about buying cases of wine and juice for the staff?? Anyway, I know you are busy now gathering your documents and evidence and then you will be enjoying time with your love and celebrating your marriage. But when you have the time would you please tell us the process and steps involved in a Nigerian marriage in a way easy to understand? Thank you and best wishes to you both. I think this time around it will all work out. Quickly I hope!!

Thanks.

I will post a more detailed explanation after the ceremonies but here is a quick gist of what we've done so far.

There are several LGA (Local Government Authorities) in the major cities. We used Oluyole Local Government in Ibadan (my Fiancee and I are from Ibadan).

The process has to start at least 21 days since they have to post a notice of marriage for 21 days publicly.

1) Identify and go to a LGA at least 21 days before the ceremony.

2) Pay a fee that varies from LGA to LGA and is higher for divorcees. We paid N8,500 since I was previously married. (N3,500 for never married folks).

3) I believe that we had to submit at least two passport photographs each. They then post the notice for 21 days.

4) There will be a N500 per signature on the marriage certificate, so figure at least another N2,000 payable at the ceremony.

The actual ceremony is rather fast, I think 20 minutes.

Oluyole LGA has a reception hall that is optional and cost N35,000, but it was pre-booked by another couple. We found another hall for roughly the same price. We could have used my house but I didn't ant any idiotic question from the Embassy nine or so months from now about why a house and not a traditional ceremonial hall.

If you or your SO doesn't have a car on the ground like me, then you need to factor in a cost to rent a suitable car.

We are doing a traditional introduction the day before the wedding. Basically I and my family and friends have to go to her house and ask for her hand in marriage (Boy, I hope they accept rofl.gif). So this has a cost as you have to "donate" money to the Women in the house, buy a few things like yam, fish, etc

I hope you have much success with the K1.

TJ since you are the Petitioner, and to add to what Gowon has answered already, the following is what documents I took with me when my husband and I were married (we were married in Ikoyi by the way).

1.....2 Color copies of your Passport (front and back, and also the inside including the VISA)

2.....2 passport photos (I had mine done at Walgreens-if you have one there-very nominal cost.)

3.....International Spinsterhood Affidavit (he filled this out after I got there with the document copies)

4......2 Copies of your Birth Certificate

5.... 2 Copies of any documents to prove previous marriages, if any, are dissolved.

God Bless both of you TJ, and Gowon congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

Toni

In response to the Rebtel question, print your cellphone logs if you called from cellphone. Most cellphone providers let you print out logs for quite a ways back. In regards to the gifts, if you go to the Ikoyi registry, you will need them...we had to when my ex and I married there :) Also, be prepared for the passing of the basket to pay the overseers of the wedding (*again!) after the ceremony!! Damn, those Nigerians will bleed you dry lol!!!
