Hi everyone,

I have got my interview on Wednesday 15th November at 10am. I can't travel down on the same day in time for the 10am appointment so I'm staying over night on the 14th.

Any recommendations for somewhere decent but not too expenisve to stay near to the embassy?

My boss has suggested St. Giles Hotel near Tottenham Court Road, anyone heard of it?

Thanks ~ Andie

We stayed at two different hotels whilst in London.

Quality Crown Paddington - obviously in the Paddington area. Renovated in 2005 all spiffy and new in comtemporary decor. Paid about 79 I think Sept. 05. Minicab ride from this hotel to the embassy was 9 quid.

Parkwood Hotel in the Hyde Park area. Traditional UK B&B. Older but clean and closer to the embassy. Paid 75. We actually liked this one best just because of the location but the other is newer and shinier if that is what you prefer.

I think you can find them both on tripadvisor.com.

I'm probably too late to be of help, Andie, but I've seen this property mentioned here before as being a good and cheap stay. I recommended it to a friend of mine who needed very inexpensive lodgings on short notice. She said her room was very small but clean and quiet, and the staff was pleasant. It is my understanding that it's quite close to the consulate.

Good luck at the interview!

I used Priceline.com and got the Marriott Grosvenor Square and the Millennium next to the embassy. Both were $100 a night but there are tons of others in the area that were cheaper.

Thanks for the luck, it paid off, I got approved yay!

I ended up staying at the Marble Arch Thistle. It's a really good location, just off Oxford Street, and only 5-6 minute walk from the embassy. It was a bit pricey for us Northerners, but for London it was pretty reasonable £164 including full English breakfast and VAT.

I know I could have probably got cheaper, but I wanted somewhere close to the embassy, and there wasn't much availability left.

Aaaanyway, if anyone has a bit of extra money to spend, I can definitely recommend it. It was a really nice hotel, and the breakfast was yummy, just what I needed to prepare me for my 2 hour wait in line outside the embassy!!

Cheers ~ Andie :)

YAY! Congratulations! That's awesome.

We've booked the holiday Inn at Kings cross for our medicals. Not exactly close to the embassy or the bond st medical place, but we'll take the tube and then probably a cab or something to get there. Because the hotel is nice and cheap and seems child friendly and has good reviews at tripadvisor (and NOTHING gets good reviews there! lol) and has a pool! With a 4 year old and a 2 year old a pool is a MUST have to keep them entertained and amused.

Congrats again on the approval! How exciting!

2006

July 30th - sent off I-130s

August 7th - I-130s filed with USCIS and we receive our notification postcard a few days later

Nov 5th - sent in the DS-2001 part 1 and the DS 2001

Nov 6th - received our packet 3 stuff, which I took as I-130 approvals

Nov 13th - received packet 4 - interview scheduled for Dec 14th

Nov 20th - had medicals

Nov 24-ish - received our actual I-130 approvals, I have no idea why they took so long to arrive!

Dec 14th - interviews - approved!

Dec 16th - visas delivered

2007

Jan 13th - leaving party :( I will miss so many people!

Jan 19th - our travel date

Feb 20th - our baby's due date
