Help! - SSN Problems

Hi All,

I entered on a K1 and we married 1.5 weeks after arriving in the US. There was a hold up in issuing our marriage certificate (it took 2.5 months just to get it issued). By the time we received it, my I-94 had just expired and I had to wait for my work authority to apply for my SSN. My work authority was approved 31st October and finally arrived at the end of November, but my middle names (I have 3) had been shortened to just one initial. I spoke with USCIS Customer Service and the very lovely, helpful woman there told me it would be fine. My full name was 1 letter too long for their system, so they shortened it so they important parts would fit. They said if I had any problems at all being verified in the SS system, SS just need to call the USCIS and they would instantly verify me.

My husband and I went down to the local Social Security office with everything I possessed to help with the SSN application - my passport with visa and expired I-94, work authority card, marriage certificate, birth certificate, proof of biometrics appointment, all of my receipts, our apartment lease and bank account details - EVERYTHING. They said they couldn't verify my in their system. I told the man at the counter that we were told that might happen and they had to call the USCIS. He told me they "don't call" and he would only send an electronic request which would take a month. I gave him every manner of name combinations I could think of that they may have shortened me too, including my name with the last letter missing. Nothing worked, so he sent the electronic request, photo copied my documents and dismissed me. I received a letter today saying they couldn't verify me with any of the documents provided and that I need to re-apply. I called USCIS again and they told me to have SS call them. Again, I went down there and they're refusing to call. The man said they will have someone else review my application, but as they can't verify me with the plethera of documents they have of mine and I have nothing else to add, it's likely the application will fail again.

I'm really at a loss of what to do. I need to be able to work, etc and SS is being less than helpful. Any advice? Has anyone been through a similar situation?

K

apply in visa name, instead?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
