Yep, Democrats won't have to compromise at all really.

Not only that. But Republicans have passed up the opportunity to make permanent the current tax rates for 98% of America by passing the bill that already passed the Senate. They now topped that off by rejecting the opportunity to vote in favor of making permanent the current tax rates for 99.81% (taking Boehner's word here) of Americans. They will be the part that caused the biggest tax increase in the history of America. Republicans reject tax relief. That's about as bad a position as they could ever have let themselves be maneuvered into. But it's what happens when you play checkers while your counterpart is playing chess.

This is a real shame. I was pretty sure the Senate and President wouldn't have signed on to this anyway, and it by no means was going to put any significant dent in the deficit, but at least House Republicans would have had the ability to end the President's claim that they only care about millionaires and billionaires.

The Republican orthodoxy that the problem is only spending would fall apart if they raised the taxes on anyone. Of course, not doing that, they will be responsible for raising taxes on everyone. They've let themselves be maneuvered into a corner that they cannot get out of in one piece. Very entertaining.
