Confused about what the next step is

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on here in awhile because hubs and I moved to Denmark so that we could be together while we waited on his visa stuff to go through. Just a refresher, I'm the USC and he is an Icelandic citizen and we have one daughter who was born in 2011. Daughter and I were in the US until July 2012 when we went to visit hubs and then we decided to move to Denmark so he could work and play volleyball (he plays competitively) while we sorted out all this stuff. Then we weren't 100% sure about moving to the US so let things sit awhile while we decided what our next step was going to be. We are back on track and decided that we are going to be relocating back to the US, but I'm a little hazy on what the next step in the process is for us. I checked the NVC IV-Bill page for us and we had paid the AOS on OCT. 4/2012. Now the next bill has shown up which is the "IV Application processing fees". I thought I had to send in all of our AOS documents before that would show up, and I have yet to do that because we haven't received a packet yet, that I'm aware of. Do I need to pay this second fee in order to move on to the next step or do I need to send in our AOS documents and THEN pay the fee once they receive them? I checked the NVC "dual-track" flowchart on here, but that just confused me. I'm also sorry if I am posting this in the wrong area. I don't post often, mostly just lurk.

ETA: we already received and filled out a choice of address and agent form, prior to paying the AOS fee. It has been received as far as I'm aware because we picked my dad, who also received mail regarding the case.

Thanks so much!

The dual track flo chart is called that b/c that's exactly what it is. You have to think of it that in most situations the beneficiary and the petitioner are not physically together. The AOS packet is submitted to the NVC from the petitioner (you) and the IV packet is submitted to the NVC by the beneficiary (your hubs). They are two separate tracks and they don't depend on each other. Here's another way to look at it:

Beneficiary:

Submits DS 3032

Get IV bill/pays the bill (usually done by petitioner since it has to be drawn on US bank but i listed it here b/c you have to pay the bill before the packet can be sent)

Sends the IV Packet

Petitioner:

Gets AOS bill/pays the bill

Send the AOS packet

Now in your situation (and mine since I also live overseas) you'll be doing all of this from one address, together so you think of it as one process, but it's really two processes that need to be completed for NVC to declare your case complete and assign your hubs an interview date. And it doesn't matter from where the packets/paperwork is sent from, as long as the NVC receives it. So you basically have two things you need to do next, send in the AOS packet and pay the IV bill. You can do either/or first, it doesn't matter.

Also, look at this thread here, the first post, and you'll get more information if you need it. Read the FAQ thoroughly it really helped me understand the process. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/402383-nvc-filers-december-2012/

Hope that helps!

To add I would not wait for the NVC to physically send you anything. Once the bills are paid you can generate the cover sheet on your own (there are guides, posts and wiki on this site that tell you how) then fill out and print off the packages and then mail them yourself. :) best of luck to you!
