NZ to USA - sending large items by container

I've already asked about the best way to send excess baggage and got some good responses. I'm now wondering about sending larger items, furniture etc to the US. Has anyone any advice on shipping from NZ to the US (specifically Florida, but any advice would be appreciated). I'm considering sending a 1/4 or 1/2 container load - I know that things are replaceable but I'm looking at sending some special pieces that are irreplaceable. Anyone who has had experience of this and advice on who to approach for reasonable prices .. It would be great to hear from you. Thanks, A

You can contact different removals companies to geta quote for moving things. We are going from Perth to Mississippi and for a 20 ft container will be like 8000. From what the reps have told me its very pricey to do groupage which is to share part of a container with other people.

Great.. thanks for the tip. I havent checked it out yet, thought I might as well sound out some ideas here. I'm still deciding what's worth taking and what isn't.

Hi A,

I'm wondering how you got on with your shipping. I will be doing the same thing soon, any tips ....? I don't have a lot of stuff but do have a couple of big items, table etc. Crown movers quoted me $9000 door to door. Who did you go with...? Any problems encountered ...?

I've intentionally come in to note this down for others needing reference, I'm sending a part/shared container from Sydney to Tennessee via Grace removals, door to door is AU$1880 + 3.5% insurance, included is about 5 large boxes, 5 small, 2 paintings, a side table and a queen bed ensemble. I was also quoted $3900 from Sydney to Honolulu earlier this year when we were living there.
