There have been a few attempts at this. One I can think of was settled out court, but generally courts are not interested because it will set a precedent over other products. George Miller tried this and failed.

Actually, the precedents are well established. It is guns that have specifically managed to get exempted. Maybe future legal efforts will change this.

You never took a US History class in high school? It was mandatory in our neck of the woods.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

As passed by the Congress:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.[8]

The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House and Senate, was prepared by scribe William Lambert and resides in the National Archives.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Nothing in the constitution or the 2nd amendment prohibits government from regulating guns and gun ownership. Nor is there anything that addresses liability issues for manufacturers of guns. Yes, I took history. Did quite well actually!

The Commies in this country have lost each and every time they have tried to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights. Look at the recent Chicago verdict then those commie lovin libs tried to walk all over the Constitution.

It doesn't matter what the commie libs want, the Constitution is the Constitution and the courts have shown that it's not to be taken lightly. When the revolution breaks out in this country your going to wish you were armed to the teeth.

They have been aggressively marketing military-type weapons to private owners! That this is irresponsible seems obvious to most sane people of modern democracies! Only here in the US does it seem 'normal' to do this. We have become desensitized, it is true, but I think it has more to do with the NRA than it does video games. Japan and western Europe love these games even more than we do, based on sales figures, yet have far less gun violence in real life. Why?

No one has been marketing "military style" weapons to me, and I used to own several before they became popular. I sold them because I didn't like feeding them ammo, and I more that doubled my investment in them once they gained in popularity. Since then they sell for 10 times what I paid for them in the mid 1970's. I brought an HK-91 onto a gun range, and dumped a magazine downrange in around 2.5 seconds. Shooters had never seen anything like it. The guns sell themselves.

I noticed you mention gun violence as a qualifier. But excusing the media and gaming industry because certain countries has less "gun" violence, has to do with less guns available, but do not explain a greater level of violence in those countries overall, and a greater use of even more destructive weapons during the more sensational attacks. I don't recall a case in the US where sarin gas was used in a subway tunnel, or where explosive devices were used to attack the nation's capital.

I can see that the tide is changing.

There is no ammo available, no mags available, and there have been millions of guns sold in the last week. The tide sounds something like this: people have determined all at once that our government is either unwilling or unable to protect us, our property, or our children when under their care/responsibility and to the tune of over a billion dollars in (3) days we have determined that enough is enough and it is time that we start making arrangements to protect ourselves.

You REALLY need to start thinking of having your congressmen / senators start talking, fast, about strict curbs up to and including extending the death penalty for different categories of gun crimes and permanent lockup for the unstable and REALKY need to lay off trying to pin responsibility for it on innocent, uninvolved, but well-armed people who are sick and tired of support for unrestricted violence in entertainment and media and unrestricted wandering of the streets by criminals and nuts.

The tide may be changing!

i don't get it.

I think a factor in gun sales going through the roof recently, is the concern that particular types of guns will be made illegal.

Not sure there is a precedent for suing the maker of a product who follows regulations and has a customer misuse the product.

Nothing in the constitution prevents showing an ID when you vote buy that does not stop the Dems who support fraudulent voting from waving it in our face.
