WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today participated in a ceremony to sign an agreement to provide $1.55 billion to the City and County of Honolulu on the island of Oahu to build Hawaii’s first-ever rail transit system.

...

“Hawaii’s first rail transit system will be a game-changer for the region because it will serve nearly 80 percent of Oahu’s total population, including thousands of workers who commute into Honolulu every day from West Oahu,” said Administrator Rogoff. “This historic project will cut commute times west of the city by more than 30 minutes each way, drastically improving the quality of life for residents who want to spend less time in their cars, more time with their families, and enjoy cleaner air.”

#######? Next thing you know they will want to build a subway system in Manhattan, which is an even smaller island than Oahu!

The horror! The humanity!!!

Maybe if they just walked the twenty minutes it takes to get from one side of Oahu to the other, there wouldn't be so many fat Hawaiians.

You been to Oahu?

44 miles long it would be amazing if you can walk across the island in 20 mins….common.

I will tell you from my personal experience traffic was so bad GPS was prompting me if I wanted to switch the GPS to pedestrian mode.

Maybe train would reduce the the traffic and will take care of parking issue.

Hope designers have desgined it well to connect all the major locations.

Traffic in Hawaii is horrible. Hated driving there. Took forever to get from Honolulu to any outlying area. It shourl not take 1.5 hours to go 20 miles. Too many people on the island. And soon its going to sink. lol.
